Cal Poly Foundation & Cal Poly Partners Student Directors Recruitment

Are you interested in representing your fellow students by serving as a Student Director on the Cal Poly Partners Board of Directors or the Cal Poly Foundation Board? Cal Poly Partners and the Cal Poly Foundation are both recruiting Student Directors for the 2026–28 academic years. The Student Director serves as the voice of the student body and is a voting member of the board. Candidates should be passionate about excellence in education and have a strong desire to facilitate the continual improvement of Cal Poly. The ideal Student Director will possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills. 

 

Cal Poly Partners  

Cal Poly Partners was incorporated in 1941 to provide services and administer programs that are integral to the mission of Cal Poly. Partners plays an important role in supporting Cal Poly’s Learn by Doing education model and in providing services that enhance the experience of students, staff, and faculty. The Board sets policy oversees management of the Partners and numerous university programs and operations.  

  • Responsibilities of the Student Director on Cal Poly Partners Board of Directors 
    • Serves as a full voting member on the Board of a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
    • Serves as liaison with Associated Students, Inc. and the general Cal Poly student community, keeping students informed on the issues and bringing a student perspective to Board deliberation. 
    • Commitment to serve a two-year term.
    • Commitment of time to: 
      • Prepare for Board meetings, including reviewing Board materials and meeting with corporation staff for briefings, as needed.
      • Attend regularly held Board meetings which are typically held on a Friday in the months of October, February, April, and June and all Partners related activities related to each meeting. 
      • Maintain communication with the student community to understand their voice and represent the Partners to that community. 

 

Cal Poly Foundation  

The Cal Poly Foundation was incorporated in March 2006 to increase private support that will play a crucial role in building and maintaining the special polytechnic, high-quality, Learn by Doing education model of Cal Poly. Individuals are elected to serve with the expectation that the director’s personal commitment and influence with others will serve to ensure the long-term growth and success of Cal Poly. The position provides a unique opportunity to interact with and learn about philanthropy from the University’s key donors and volunteers, who have achieved great success in their careers.  

  • Responsibilities of the Student Director on the Cal Poly Foundation Board  
    • Serves as a full voting member on the Board of a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.   
    • Serves as liaison with Associated Students and the general Cal Poly student community, keeping students informed on the issues and bringing a student perspective to Board deliberations. 
    • Maintain communication with the student community, particularly the Student Philanthropy Council, in an effort to develop a culture of giving among students. 
    • Commitment to serve a two-year term. 
    • Commitment of time to:  
      • Prepare for Board meetings, including reviewing Board materials and meeting with University Development staff for briefings, as needed. 
      • Attend regularly Board meetings which are typically held quarterly on a Saturday in the months of August, November, February, and May and all Foundation related activities related to each quarterly meeting.  

 

Desirable Qualifications of the Student Directors 

  • Previous experience serving on a board or in a leadership position in a student or community service organization. 
  • Enrolled upper division or graduate student in good standing.  
  • Ability to:  
  • Quickly acquire general knowledge of the organization and its relationship to the University as an auxiliary organization of the CSU. 
  • Serve as an effective representative of the Cal Poly Foundation, especially to the student community. 
  • Communicate effectively and articulate various points of view.
