Have you ever wanted to connect with the local representatives from San Luis Obispo’s community? Join ASI Student Government in the University Union Plaza on Thursday, Feb.12 from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. for Civic Engagement Day! This event is designed to connect students with local elected officials and government staff.
Civic Engagement Day gives students the opportunity to meet these individuals, ask questions about their work, and learn how to stay civically engaged with the San Luis Obispo community as Cal Poly students. Representatives will be located at booths in the University Union Plaza, and students are encouraged to stop by, connect with them through conversations, and enjoy free SLODOCO.
Attendees will include members of the City Council, the Board of Supervisors, and non-elected officials such as the Chiefs of Police for the City of San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly.
Joe Aguiar, ASI Secretary of Civic Engagement, states, “Civic Engagement Day is an opportunity for Cal Poly students to come out and engage with their elected leaders at the local level, as well as learn about their responsibilities and how local government impacts their lives. It’s a welcoming, low stakes environment for all students to come out and engage their local elected officials and government leaders.”
This event provides a welcoming and friendly environment for students to ask questions and grow their knowledge on what is occurring within their community. ASI Student Government hopes students will stop by, ask questions, and take part in shaping their civic voice.
