The hub of campus life.
Whether for studying, socializing, or touring campus, the University Union is the gathering place for the Cal Poly community. Commonly referred to as the UU, it serves as the hub for campus activities, events, and services.
The first floor of the UU is currently open. The second floor of the UU will remain closed at this time. First floor restaurants are open for outdoor dining only including Starbucks, Yogurt Creations, and Mustang Station. Mustang Lanes will remain closed in accordance with California’s Phase 2 guidelines.
Welcome to the UU
The University Union (UU) is the hub for a variety of cultural, educational, social, and recreational programs. Centrally located on campus, the UU was built in 1971 and includes over 110,000 square feet of space for students and other Cal Poly community members to meet, socialize, and enhance their experience on campus.
The UU is managed by ASI and houses many ASI programs including ASI Events, ASI Club Services, the ASI Craft Center, ASI Student Government, and ASI Business Services. Numerous university departments also call the UU home, including the Dean of Students, Pride Center, Gender Equity Center, MultiCultural Center, and the Center for Leadership.
The UU provides a variety of options for students or the Cal Poly community to meet, study, socialize, or host an event. Whether you are in the San Luis or Chandler Study Lounges, one of the reservable conference rooms, Mustang Lanes Bowling Alley, Chumash Auditorium, or the outdoor UU Plaza with entertainment stage, there is a space for everyone!
For those looking to grab a quick bite, the UU has a number of dining establishments including Starbucks, Yogurt Creations, Red Radish which serves fresh salads, and Mustang Station which serves a variety of pizza and pasta with beer and wine on tap.
For the Cal Poly community or visiting guests, the UU provides a variety of open seating areas, a lactation room, computer kiosks, charging stations, ATM locations, Wi-Fi, hydration stations, and digital displays for advertising and up-to-the-minute news or sports coverage.

A lactation room, a private space for breastfeeding or pumping, is located on the second floor of the UU, within the women’s restroom. This space also includes diaper changing and hand washing stations.
Three conference rooms with various capacities, Chumash Auditorium, lounges, and the UU Plaza are available for reservation for your meetings, conferences, or events.
*Reservations for the second-floor conference rooms, Chumash Auditorium, lounges, and the UU plaza are suspended until further notice.

Visit the UU
Welcome desk student staff are available to assist UU guests during building operating hours. Located on the first floor of the UU, the welcome desk provides information about UU events, facilities, services, and campus maps.
Visitors can park in the Grand Avenue parking structure or the metered A-1 lot near the Administration Building. Visit Transportation & Parking Services for more information.
The UU is designed to accommodate guests of all abilities. Questions regarding accessibility can be directed to the assistant director – University Union facility operations or the Cal Poly Disability Resource Center.
In order to keep communities safe, our local energy company may need to turn off power during extreme weather or wildfire conditions. This is called a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). To learn more about the response from ASI managed facilities and programs, visit the informational page here.
