The Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Craft Center is a place for novice crafters and experienced designers to create memorable works in a variety of mediums. We provide the classes, tools, and space to inspire your passion projects.
The Craft Center is currently closed for the summer but is preparing for an exciting fall quarter. Throughout the year, the Craft Center provides courses, workshops, events, and studio passes for various crafters at all skill levels. Recently, the Craft Center underwent a major remodel to enhance design, layout, and upgrade workspaces. With its reopening, ASI can offer a wider variety of classes, new equipment, and expanded craft opportunities. Stay tuned for fall registration and new craft offerings coming in September!
Courses:
The Craft Center offers a variety of quarterly courses for students at a low cost. Offerings include sustainable leather working, watercolor painting, jewelry making, stained glass, surfboard shaping, and ceramics both on the wheel and by hand. In spring quarter, over 200 students enrolled in instructor-led courses, with enrollment expected to increase in the fall.
Workshops and Events:
Workshops are the perfect opportunity to test out a new craft or practice a craft you love. Throughout the year the Craft Center holds workshops in block printing, knitting, crochet, and jewelry making. At the end of spring quarter, we debuted the new mobile bike shop, where students can get help with bike repairs from trained bike mechanics. In the fall students can expect to see mobile bike mechanics all around campus!
Studio Passes:
Studio passes allow students with previous craft experience to access ASI’s top of the line equipment and facilities. The Craft Center offers studio passes for students looking to practice stained glass, ceramics, and surfboard shaping. With studio passes, students have access to all equipment, tools, and materials necessary to succeed in their craft. Studio pass holders must have previous experience working with their craft and meet with an instructor prior to using their studio pass. Tools and studio space are accessible on a first come, first served basis.
To get involved with the Craft Center this fall, make sure to register for classes and open studio passes on time as they are expected to fill up quickly. Follow us on Instagram to stay up to date with all Craft Center happenings.
