State of Disability: Presented by ASI Student Government and the Disability Alliance Club
|
On May 16, ASI Student Government will be joined by the Cal Poly Disability Alliance to hold a State of Disability event from 6 p.m.– 8 p.m. in Chumash Auditorium. This event will feature the experiences of students, staff, faculty, and other members of the Cal Poly community living with disabilities.
The State of Disability event is in alignment with similar events highlighting the experiences of other minority groups on campus. This includes but is not limited to “State of Womxn,” “State of Blackness,” “State of Queerness,” and “State of Latinx”.
ASI Student Government’s Secretary of Accessibility, Sydney Lehr, says “Overall, disabled students are overlooked in the DEI efforts of Cal Poly. State of Disability is one of the only events on campus that reaches a wider audience and gives us a chance to share our experiences and stories of being disabled at Cal Poly”.
Students are encouraged to come and engage in an important conversation about the culture, stories, and history of the disabled community. The first 30 student attendees will receive free dinner from SLO BBQ.
