An October Recap from ASI Leadership

|

Happy October! Over the past month, I have been in meetings with campus administration on a wide range of topics including Year-Round Operations, West Campus Development, Basic Needs, campus affordability, and more. These meetings have included President Armstrong, Vice President Terrance Harris, Provost Liddicoat, and more. My goal in these meetings is to bring in the student’s voice and ensure that decisions made at the university level are made with a student-first mindset and clearly communicate the decision-making process to students.

This month, I traveled to the Cal Poly Maritime Academy campus to support the launch of the ASI Maritime Academy Council. I also traveled to Chico State for the bimonthly California State Student Association (CSSA) Board Meeting, where representatives from all 22 ASIs meet to discuss and elevate issues at the systemwide level. Afterward, I traveled to Waterloo, Canada, to learn from a university that operates on a year-round model. Finally, I traveled to San Jose to attend the CSU Student Success Symposium, which focused on implementing the Student Success Framework on our campus.

We recently announced our rideshare voucher service for students! Uber rides for any Cal Poly student will be capped at $10 before and after Fall & Winter Break to the Airport or Train Station. This has been added to our student essentials page which lists many resources available to you. This is an exciting new service available to our students, and we are excited to see the utilization of the program.

Beyond this, I continue to focus on my campaign platform of affordability, resources, community, and action, ensuring we continue to improve the student experience for all of you. Continue to check out the events coming out of Student Government including our upcoming Financial Literacy Workshops and Unity Night.

I always want to hear directly from you! My office hours are every Wednesday from 10–11 a.m. in the University Union (UU) Room 202. I am also happy to schedule time to meet outside of that, so feel free to reach out! My email is [email protected] and I am always happy to answer any questions or concerns. If you are looking for a way to get involved, consider joining ASI Executive Staff; it is one of the best ways to become involved in Student Government right now. You can also follow along for updates throughout the year on Instagram at @asi_president.

ASI President

Hi everyone! In our board meetings this month, we have voted to accept new members, including the UUAB Vice Chair, ASI Alumni co-chair, and a new director to fill a vacancy on the ASI Board of Directors for the College of Engineering. We have also approved updates to the ASI President, Chair of the Board of Directors, and Chair of the University Union Advisory Board (UUAB) responsibility guides. The ASI Elections Code has been formally approved with the election policies for the 2027 Spring election. If you’re interested in being in ASI Student Government, consider campaigning in Spring semester to be on the ASI Board of Directors for 2027-2028!

Members of Student Government are continuing to write legislation and start campus improvement projects to support their constituents. Writing legislation is open to any Cal Poly student! If you’re interested in writing legislation, contact me and I will connect you with your ASI Board of Directors college representatives.

If you are interested in connecting with your representatives, attending our meetings, or speaking at open forum, visit the ASI website here. You are welcome to visit any of our board meetings which take place every other Wednesday from 5:10pm – 8pm in the University Union, Room 220. We represent you, and we would love to hear your perspective.

If you have any questions, comments, or would like to learn more, please email me at [email protected] or visit me at my office hours on Tuesdays 12pm – 1pm in the University Union, Room 202.

Chair, ASI Board of Directors

Hi everyone! It has been wonderful to get underway with the ASI University Union Advisory Board and have our first three official meetings of the year. Meetings have included the ratification of our Vice Chair, recommending approval of a facility sublease extension to Mustang Lanes, our Operation Code, and our standing rules. We are beginning to dive deeper into our own facilities and potential improvement projects.

Recently, the UUAB traveled to the Bay Area to visit Cal Poly Maritime Academy and explore our ASI-managed facilities there. It was wonderful to connect with members of the ASI Maritime Academy Council and get a better glimpse into the student experience at the Solano campus! We were also able to tour facilities at other CSUs in the bay and are inspired to get started on projects here in SLO.

An exciting update from ASI Recreation Programs and ASI Facilities: recent installation of a new equipment locker at the Upper Sports Complex along with new nets and windscreens at the pickleball courts!

Members are connecting with their college councils, starting to write proposals, and will review other exciting projects coming to the UUAB. All students and members of the public are welcome to attend our meetings and participate in public comment during open forum. Our meetings take place every other Thursday from 10am – 12pm in the Recreation Center Training Room, Bldg. 43, Room 109.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or want to learn more about our ASI managed facilities, feel free to email me at [email protected] or [email protected], or visit me at my office hours on Tuesdays from 11am-12pm in the University Union, Room 202.
