Endless Summer Fun for the Whole Family at the Recreation Center! 

Make this summer one to remember at the Cal Poly Recreation Center! From youth swim lessons to Family Fun Days at the Leisure pool, the Recreation Center is the perfect place for families in San Luis Obispo to stay active, build confidence in the water, and enjoy quality time together all summer long. Whether your child is learning to swim for the first time or your family is looking for fun ways to beat the heat, there’s something for everyone at the recreation center this season.  

Youth Swim Lesson Programs  

Our 2026 summer aquatics programs are designed to support swimmers of all ages and skill levels. All lessons take place in the Leisure Pool and are led by experienced instructors focused on safety, skill-building, and fun. 

Registration opens June 1!  

Spots fill quickly, so be sure to sign up early through ASI Access. 

Important Notes: 

  • Children ages 0–3 must wear swim diapers in the pool 
  • Refunds are only issued if a class is canceled and cannot be rescheduled 

 

Youth Small Group 

A great option for kids ages 4–16 to learn and improve swimming skills in a supportive group setting (3–6 participants per class). 

Cost: $100 per session (four 45-minute lessons) 

Weekend Sessions (Saturdays): 

  • Session 1: June 27, July 11, July 18, July 25
  • Session 2: Aug. 1, Aug. 8, Aug. 15, Aug. 22  
  • Times:  
    • 10–10:45 a.m.  
    • 11–11:45 a.m.  

Weekday Sessions (Tue/Thu): 

  • Session 1: July 7, 9, 14, 16 | 5:30–6:15 p.m.  
  • Session 2: July 21, 23, 28, 30 | 5:30–6:15 p.m. 

 

Pre–swim family lessons 

Designed for younger swimmers and their guardians, these classes create a positive, engaging first experience in the water through songs, guided activities, and hands-on participation. 

Cost: $100 (four 45-minute lessons) 

Summer Session (Saturdays: Aug. 1, 8, 15, 22): 

  • Toddler & Me (ages 2–4): 9:45–10:30 a.m.  
  • Baby & Me (6–24 months): 10:30–11:15 a.m. 

Youth Private Lessons 

Personalized one-on-one instruction for swimmers ages 4–16. Work directly with an instructor to build confidence and target specific goals. 

Cost: $270 for 4 total hours of instruction 

  • Flexible scheduling (30, 40, or 60-minute sessions)  
  • Coordinate timing directly with your instructor  
  • Note: No private lessons offered Saturdays between 10 a.m.–noon 

 

Family Fun Days 

Make the Recreation Center part of your family’s summer routine! 

OPEN EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK!
June 15–Aug. 18 

Enjoy a full lineup of activities for all ages, including:
Leisure pool, sand volleyball, basketball, racquetball + more
(Leisure pool opens daily at 11 a.m.) 

Members are invited to host family and friends for summer fun at the Recreation Center. Each member may bring up to two adults and six children per visit. 

Guest Pass Options: 

  • One-Day Guest Pass 
  • Every-Day Pass (7 days/week) 

Pricing: 

  • Adults (16+): $10 per day | $170 every-day pass 
  • Children (0–15): $5 per day | $85 every-day pass 

Guidelines & Amenities: 

  • Water and small snack items are permitted 
  • Snacks may only be consumed on the grass area surrounding the sand volleyball courts 
  • Small coolers and lunch bags are allowed (no large ice chests or glass containers) 

Important Reminders: 

  • Supervision required: 1 adult for every 2 children 
  • Children ages 0–3 must wear swim diapers in the pool (available for purchase at the Membership Desk)
