Cal Poly students have a vital voice in local, state, and federal civic decision-making. Flex Your Right is ASI Student Government’s annual voter registration campaign that provides students with the opportunity to register to vote using their San Luis Obispo or home address.
California is holding a Statewide Direct Primary Election on Tuesday, June 2, and the deadline to register to vote is Monday, May 18. In California, those who miss the deadline to register can still go to a county elections office, vote center, or polling place on or before Election Day to complete Same Day Voter Registration. ASI strives to encourage students to register to vote and promote civic engagement within the Cal Poly community.
For those needing registration assistance, ASI Student Government will be hosting booths in the University Union Plaza (near Building 65) and on Dexter Lawn (near Building 34). Boothing starts on May 5 and occurs from 10 a.m.—noon, every Tuesday and Thursday on a weekly basis leading up to the election on June 2.
Who should register to vote?
- A new voter
- A 16 or 17 year-old who would like to pre-register and automatically be registered once 18
- A registered voter who needs to change their information (name, address, political party, etc.)
All California registered voters will be receiving a Vote-By-Mail ballot and have three options for voting!
- Mail-in
Once you receive your vote-by-mail ballot, fill it out, seal it, and mail it to your county’s elections official.
All ballots must be postmarked on or before election day.
- Drop-off
Once you receive your vote-by-mail ballot, fill it out, seal it, and drop it off at any official ballot drop-off location, polling place, or county’s elections official offices. View San Luis Obispo County ballot drop-off locations to plan ahead!
All ballots must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on June 2.
- In-person
You can also decide to vote in person at your assigned polling location. All polling locations are listed on the mail-in ballot you will receive or use the Secretary of State’s polling lookup resource.
For more information, review the Civic Engagement webpage. Remember, the last day to register to vote is Monday, May 18, and the California Primary Election is Tuesday, June 2. Make your voice heard, Mustangs!
