Cal Poly Recreation Center Partial Reopening

At this time, the Cal Poly Recreation Center has been approved to open the lap pool and specific outdoor exercise areas on the pool deck by reservation only on Monday, Aug. 24. We are not able to reopen indoor areas at this time. The Alternate Care Site (ACS) at the Recreation Center is currently on standby.

While we’re excited to welcome you back, there are new guidelines for entry that you must follow to visit the facility.

 

MODIFIED HOURS

Sept. 8–Nov. 20
Monday–Friday: 7 a.m.–8 p.m.
Saturday–Sunday: 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m.

Monday–Friday from 8:30–9:30 a.m. is reserved for COVID-19 susceptible members only.

 

GUIDELINES FOR ENTRANCE

  • Due to the university required COVID-19 testing, students entering the Cal Poly Recreation Center must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test by showing your digital pass from the daily COVID-19 screening. For information and updates about COVID-19. Learn more.
  • Do not enter the facility if you are exhibiting any flu-like symptoms such as:
    • Fever or chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body ache
    • Headache
    • Sore throat
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
  • Face coverings are required when inside the facility and when maintaining 6 feet of distance from others is not possible, including while actively exercising. *Lap pool excluded.
  • Please practice physical distancing.
  • Arrive ready to exercise. Locker rooms will remain closed.
  • Bring a full water bottle. Hydration stations and water fountains are currently closed. 
  • Assist with cleanliness by washing your hands and using hand sanitizer as needed.
  • Currently, only Cal Poly students, faculty, staff, emeritus, and alumni are eligible to use the facility. 
    • Self-sponsored guest passes may be purchased for eligible Cal Poly community members: 
      • $4/one-visit passes or $15/fivevisit pass.  
      • Only credit/debit payments are allowed at this time. No cash will be accepted.   
      • Household, sponsored guests, self-sponsored guests +1 currently not eligible for entrance. 

 

RESERVATION POLICY

Reservations are required to use all exercise areas. You can make your reservation using the ASI Access app or on our website. Reservations open one day in advance and are available during business hours only.

  • Members must sign the ASI Waiver of Liability and the COVID-19 Policies and Procedures Acknowledgment prior to first visit. 
    • Members with Cal Poly Portal access can do this through the ASI Access app. Download ASI Access in the App Store or Google Play.
    • Those without Cal Poly Portal access may do this at the Membership Services desk at check-in.  
  • Arrive a minimum of five minutes before your reserved time. There may be a line to enter the facility. 
  • In an effort for us to bring in as many participants at a time as possible, we are requiring that you stay in your reserved workout space only during your reserved time slot.
  • Reservations are for a maximum of one hour. Members must vacate the facility at reservation end time as it will be closed to the public for a brief cleaning. 
  • Only one reservation may be made per day, per person.
  • If you do not have Cal Poly Portal access, please call the Membership Services desk at 805-756-1366 to request a reservation.

Activate your membership, register for your favorite ASI programs, discover events, and stay up to date on facility news and closures.

FITNESS

There will be a new exercise area outside on the pool deck available by reservation only.

Outdoor Exercise Area

  

These one-hour reservation blocks are for the Outdoor Exercise Area only. Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Available Equipment:  

  • Three Olympic lifting platforms 
  • Two squat racks
  • Two spin bikes (Keiser brand) 
  • One rowing machine (Concept 2 Rower brand) 
  • Cardio Machines
    • Six spin bikes (Keiser brand)
    • Three rowing machines (Concept 2 Rower brand)
  • Slam ball rack – 4-20 pound free weights for core and full-body workouts 
  • Dumbbell rack – 3.5-50 pound free weights

 

AQUATICS

The lap pool will be available by reservation only.

  • 10 lanes available
    • One person max per lane.
  • Your reservation includes:
    • One reserved pool lane and chair to store belongings/towel.  
    • Access to the following pool equipment:   
      • Pull buoys   
      • Kickboards   
      • Jogging belts 
  • Come ready to swim as locker rooms are not currently open.
    • Restrooms on the pool deck will be open for use.
