ASI Student Government

A September Recap from ASI Leadership

|

Hi everyone! Over the past month, I have met with several campus administrators, including President Armstrong, Vice President Terrance Harris, and Vice President Matt Weinstein. These conversations have focused on a wide range of student priorities, including basic needs, affordability, West Campus development, changes to the year-round academic model, and more. These meetings provide an important opportunity to consistently elevate student needs, build relationships with campus partners, and identify ways to improve the student experience.

I have also met with members of Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) to discuss potential service improvements. TAPS recently added a third Mustang Shuttle that runs directly from the library to the Ag Units. This addition will help improve access to that area of campus while allowing the other two shuttles to complete quicker loops around campus.

I also had the opportunity to visit the Cal Poly Maritime Academy campus, where I met with students and administrators to discuss issues and priorities specific to Maritime students. Staying connected with students across both campuses is essential to understanding their distinct needs, identifying opportunities for collaboration, and ensuring student voices are represented across Cal Poly. Additionally, I met with the Downtown Business Association to explore opportunities for collaboration and ways to help students feel more connected to downtown San Luis Obispo.

Our Executive Cabinet has also been hard at work planning initiatives and events that are meant to improve your experience as students. Make sure you are registered to vote by participating in our Flex Your Right voter registration efforts. You can check your registration status or register to vote here. We also have our annual Buck the Stigma Campaign coming up soon. This important week focuses on mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and connecting students with support. Learn more about the events taking place throughout the week in this blog post.

I always want to hear directly from you! My office hours are every Wednesday from 10–11 a.m. in the University Union (UU) Room 202. I am also happy to schedule time to meet outside of that, so feel free to reach out! My email is tschinde@calpoly.edu and I am always happy to answer any questions or concerns. If you are looking for a way to get involved, consider joining Executive Staff; it is one of the best ways to become involved in Student Government right now. You can also follow along for updates throughout the year on Instagram at @asi_president.

ASI President

Hi everyone! It has been a great start to the year with two of our ASI Board of Directors meetings completed and legislation writing in-progress. The board meetings have included the ratification of members, approval of our standing rules, and acceptance of ASI’s annual audit. We hold our board meetings every other Wednesday from 5:10pm – 8pm in the University Union, Room 220, with opportunity for public comment at the beginning of each meeting.

Members of the ASI Board of Directors have been connecting with students via college club councils and clubs to hear about issue areas that are impacting their constituents. Several members have begun drafting bills, resolutions, and endorsements which will have a lasting impact on ASI and the Cal Poly community. If you are interested in connecting with your representatives, attending our meetings, or speaking at open forum, visit the ASI website here. You are welcome to visit any of our board meetings which take place every other Wednesday from 5:10pm – 8pm in the University Union, Room 220. We represent you, and we would love to hear your perspective.

If you have any questions, comments, or would like to learn more, please email me at asichairofboard@calpoly.edu or visit me at my office hours on Tuesdays 12pm – 1pm in the University Union, Room 202.

Chair, ASI Board of Directors

Hello everyone!  I wanted to briefly introduce myself as a new member of the ASI Officer Team! My name is Peyton Kelly, a fourth-year Graphic Communication major, and I was recently elected by the University Union Advisory Board to serve as the 2026-27 UUAB Chair. It has been a whirlwind of a start, and I am so grateful to be in this position to advocate for student needs in our ASI managed facilities and at the university level. Because UUAB can sound a bit mysterious, I’d love to explain: we’re the branch of student government that focuses on oversight and improvements to our ASI managed facilities on both our San Luis Obispo and Solano campuses. So, whether a small improvement, like additional dumbbells in the Recreation Center or PEAC, or a larger vision to enhance one of our spaces, I always want to hear about what you love about our facilities, and what you think could use change. Speaking of, we’ve heard you: a new pec deck is on the way to the Recreation Center!

It will be an exciting year for the UUAB, focusing on both small- and large-scale projects that can help our facilities better serve student needs, especially when our campus continues to grow! While members are beginning to connect with their college councils, write proposals, other action items will come across our desk this fall, and all students and members of the public are welcome to attend our meetings and participate in public comment during open forum. Our meetings take place every other Thursday from 10am – 12pm in the Recreation Center Training Room, Bldg. 43, Room 109.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or want to learn more about our ASI managed facilities, feel free to email me at pkelly10@calpoly.edu, or visit me at my office hours on Tuesdays from 11am-12pm in the University Union, Room 202.
