Event Details
Join ASI Student Government for the first-ever Civic Engagement Day on May 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Chumash Auditorium (Building 65, Room 205)! This event will allow the student body to actively communicate and connect with representatives from various levels of government. Students will have the chance to share their concerns with officials and learn more about the inner workings of government, including its impact on our campus community. Free lunch will be provided at the event.
Representatives featured at this event include but are not limited to, San Luis Obispo Councilwoman Emily Francis, County Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg, and staff members from the offices of County Supervisor Jimmy Paulding and Senator John Laird. This event will be similar to the “Meet Your Representatives” series from past years with the same goal to engage students in discussions with their representatives and officials.
About the External Affairs Committee
This event is hosted and run by the ASI External Affairs committee, whose responsibilities include creating and maintaining relationships with relevant figures who govern life at Cal Poly. The External Affairs committee includes members from the ASI Board of Directors, and the corporate governing board of ASI.
The Board of Directors acts as the official voice of Cal Poly students and is comprised of elected representatives from each academic college. Their responsibilities range from oversight of ASI corporate activity to representing and advocating on behalf of students.
As representatives of the Cal Poly student body, the Board of Directors hosts civic engagement-oriented events to give students a chance to engage with and voice their concerns to officials. This opportunity is meant to serve all Cal Poly students regardless of background or ability. Please reach out to the External Affairs Committee Chair, Reagan Denny, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this event.
Visit the External Affairs Committee page to learn more. For any questions regarding the ASI Board of Directors, contact the Chair of the Board at asichairofboard@calpoly.edu.
