Free Bike Supplies Brought to You by ASI Student Government!

|

On May 28, ASI Student Government will be distributing free bike helmets, lights, pumps, and locks from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in the University Union Plaza in collaboration with Transportation and Parking Services and Green Campus. This event is a part of Bike Month, which is presented by both the City of SLO and the Energy, Utilities, and Sustainability Department of Cal Poly Facilities. Additionally, free pizza from Woodstock’s will be provided to those in attendance.

Green Campus and ASI have partnered for a number of other events promoting sustainability on campus this year, including Earth Week events and the Green Commuter Challenge. When asked about putting on this event and its importance, Secretary of Sustainability Haley Duran says, “The purpose of the ASI Bike Supply Distribution is to promote commuting sustainably to Cal Poly. Encouraging modes of transport that are not gas-powered vehicles is important to our path to carbon neutrality since commuting accounts for almost half of total campus carbon emissions. ASI hopes to inspire students, faculty, and staff to utilize sustainable modes of transportation and providing free bike supplies is one way to assist in that endeavor.”
