The Great Craft Center Throw Down Debuts

San Luis Obispo, Calif. 02/04/2026 — The ASI Craft Center is excited to debut The Great Craft Center Throw Down—a competition of timed clay challenges. On Friday, Feb. 20, at the ASI Craft Center (Building 65, Room 111) from 8 p.m.–midnight, individuals of all skill levels will face a series of challenges, showcasing various ceramics skill testing techniques from both wheel throwing and hand building. The winners of each session will receive prizes from sponsors such as BLICK ® Art Materials, Art Central SLO, The Pottery, and Amaco. All session participants will be entered into a raffle for prizes such as free clay, ceramic tools, private lessons, studio passes, and more! There will also be free Shrinky Dink and $10 glazing crafting opportunities at community tables, with free sandwiches from Urbane Cafe® 

The Great Craft Center Throw Down will consist of four 45-minute sessions. Individual sessions will have 12 participants and will be separated by beginner, intermediate, and advanced skill levels. There will also be one team session comprised of twelve teams of two. Each participant has a one session limit. 

Registration is $15 and will be live through ASI Access on Monday, Feb. 9 at 8 a.m. Participation is open to current Cal Poly students. All Craft Center community, faculty, and staff members are welcome to spectate!
