The ASI Craft Center is a creative space for both beginners and experienced crafters to bring their projects to life. We offer classes, tools, and studio space to inspire your passion. This quarter, we’re offering 6-week courses for beginners to master a new craft through expert instruction, along with single-day workshops for a focused crafting experience. Experienced crafters can also register for open studio passes for access to studio space and materials without instruction. Set your alarms because registration opens Monday, Jan. 6 at 7 a.m. on ASI Access!
Workshops
- Thrift Flip: Repurpose your thrifting hauls into DIY projects you love! Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, learn how to alter and revamp clothing.
- Paint Nights: Guided painting sessions where you create and take home your own canvas masterpiece. Each class features a new project.
- Block Printing: Explore the art of linocutting and stamp design, to create custom prints on paper or fabric.
- Crochet: Learn how to start a crochet, do single crochet, hold the hook, and work in a row. This workshop is a fun, interactive way to start your crochet journey!
- Ceramics – Teapot Workshop: In this three-part workshop, you’ll learn how to make a teapot on the ceramics wheel from start to finish.
Multi-week Courses
- Introduction to Sewing: Learn the basics of using a sewing machine, altering and fixing damaged clothing, how to read clothing patterns, and walk away with your own handmade masterpieces!
- Block Printing: Master linocutting and stamp design, and create custom prints on paper or fabric.
- Sustainable Leather Working: Learn leather crafting skills like tooling and carving to create coasters, keychains, belts, and more.
- Introduction to Crochet: A hands-on class teaching basic crochet skills, including how to hold the hook and work in rows.
- Watercolor Painting: Create your own watercolor masterpiece, with guidance from an instructor.
- Ceramics: Learn clay techniques and create functional pottery, with open studio access throughout the course.
- Ceramics Handbuilding: Master handbuilding techniques to create pottery without a wheel, such as pots, tiles, and wall hangings.
- Beginning Stained Glass: Create a stained-glass panel, learning safety and technique from experienced instructors.
- Surfboard Shaping: Learn to shape a custom surfboard, including techniques for shaping rails, nose, tail, and finishing.
- Jewelry Making: Dive deeper into jewelry creation with wire wrapping and beading, making earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.
Open Studio Passes
- Ceramics: Access the ceramics studio to create pottery at your own pace, with instructor office hours available.
- Surfboard Shaping: Use studio tools and space to shape surfboards independently, with instructor support.
- Stained Glass: Gain access to the stained-glass studio to create your projects, with materials provided and additional purchases available.
- Sewing: Try out our brand-new fiber arts studio! Complete with sewing machines, scrap fabric, and all sewing tools and supplies needed to take on your own project!
