ASI Events is excited to showcase a special screening of the nostalgic movie Camp Rock followed by a Q&A session and meet-and-greet with one of it’s stars, Maria Canals-Barrera! The event is free for students with PolyCard and will be held on Monday, April 13, in Chumash Auditorium (Building 65, Room 205) from 6–9 p.m. No registration is required for attendees.
Along with the movie screening, students can enjoy camp-inspired crafts such as pennant making, friendship bracelet making, and keychain making. Additionally, there will be popcorn, snacks, and free reusable popcorn bucket giveaways. Students will watch Camp Rock together before enjoying a moderated Q&A session and meet-and-greet with Maria Canals-Barrera, whose appearance was arranged through Gotham Artists.
Maria is best known for her starring role as the mortal mother of three teenage wizards, in the three-time Emmy Award-winning series Wizards of Waverly Place. The show aired its series finale on Jan. 6, 2012 to an audience of 9.8 million, the series’ number one telecast ever. Maria reprised her role in the Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel Original Movie Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, for which she won an Imagen award for Best Supporting Actress — Television in 2010. The cast reunited for a one-hour TV reunion special in March 2013. Canals Barrera also starred as Mitchie’s mom, Connie Torres, in the Disney Channel Original Movies Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Maria will also be reprising her role in this summer’s upcoming Camp Rock 3 on Disney+/Disney Channel.
So grab your friends, channel your inner camper, and get ready for a night of music, memories, and fun you won’t want to miss!
