Weekly Grocery Shuttle Service for Winter and Spring Quarter
|
San Luis Obispo, Calif. 12/15/2025 — ASI Student Government is launching a free shuttle service
to transport students from campus to local grocery stores, addressing a critical need for accessible
and affordable basic necessities. The new service, supported by the ASI Student Government
Executive Cabinet and in partnership with Campus Health and Wellbeing (Basic Needs), will utilize
Mustang Shuttles to run every Friday and Sunday from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. during weeks 1–8 of winter
and spring quarter.
This initiative is designed to eliminate transportation barriers for students who lack reliable access
to off-campus grocery stores. “Every person deserves easy access to healthy, affordable food,” said
Tanner Schinderle, ASI Chief of Staff. “This program helps remove barriers many students face
when trying to get off campus to reach grocery stores like Trader Joe’s, Target, Food 4 Less, and
Whole Foods. We’re thrilled to partner with Campus Health & Wellbeing on this initiative and hope
it is a meaningful step toward closing the food insecurity gap at Cal Poly.”
The service is free for all students who present a valid PolyCard. The shuttle will operate on three
distinct routes: one from the Performing Arts Center (PAC) bus stop and the University Union bus
stop, both running continuous loops from Trader Joe’s and Food 4 Less. A second route also departs
from the PAC and University Union bus stops; this loop travels to Target, Whole Foods, and Costco.
A third route will be departing from Poly Canyon Village from the Vista Caballo B stop and traveling
to Trader Joe’s and Food 4 Less. Route maps and pick-up/drop-off times for the launch of this
service are posted on the ASI website. More information about full route maps and detailed pickup/drop-off times can be found on the Mustang Shuttle app.
