Increased Lighting and Safety Infrastructure on Campus Resolution #25-02
|
San Luis Obispo, Calif. 04/02/2025 — On Mar. 5, 2025, the ASI Board of Directors passed the Support of Increased Lighting and Safety Infrastructure on Campus resolution, authored by Clark Stafford and Scott Drouin. This resolution calls on Cal Poly Facilities and Public Safety to enhance pathway lighting, increase the number of emergency blue light phones, and implement routine lighting checks to address dark and frequently used pathways.
ASI Secretary of Accessibility Scott Drouin emphasized the importance of this resolution stating, “On-campus lighting is something I have been passionate about ever since I first walked home to Poly Canyon Village after class last fall in the dark. Student safety is paramount, so when I joined ASI this year, I made lighting a priority of mine. Clark and I both know our responsibility in ASI is to advocate for student needs, which prompted us to author this resolution as a step forward for a brighter campus.”
Clark Stafford, Board of Directors Representative for the College of Architecture and Environmental Design stated, “I coauthored this resolution because when I campaigned for Board last year, one of the most important issues I heard from students was the lack of comprehensive lighting on campus. No student should feel stress trying to get home or to class after dark.”
Resolutions passed by the Board of Directors represent the collective voice of Cal Poly students and are an essential part of student advocacy. Students who are passionate about an issue on campus are encouraged to connect with their college representatives on the Board of Directors to get involved.
