ASI to Assume Management of Cal Poly Anderson Aquatic Center, Expanding Access and Opportunities for Students
|
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA. 05/19/2026 — Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) will assume management of Cal Poly’s Anderson Aquatic Center, with a primary focus on expanding student access. This transition will increase opportunities for Cal Poly clubs, club sports, campus departments, and external organizations to reserve and utilize the facility, strengthening support for student recreation and campus programming.
As part of this transition, the Anderson Aquatic Center will serve as a space for Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) which include student clubs and sports clubs, for reservation-based activities. This model is designed to simplify the reservation process and provide organizations with more consistent access to an aquatic space designed to support their practice and competition needs.
“This upcoming transition represents an exciting opportunity to enhance the process for our students and campus groups,” said Alexander Levine, Chair of the University Union Advisory Board. “By dedicating space specifically for clubs and reservations, we’re creating a more efficient and accessible experience for everyone.”
The change will also positively impact Cal Poly Recreation Center members. By shifting club-based and reserved activities to Anderson Aquatic Center, additional space will become available at the Recreation Center for open recreation and lap swimming, giving students and all members greater flexibility and access.
Once implemented, students and organizations can expect:
- Increased availability of pool space for open recreation at the Cal Poly Recreation Center.
- A year-round reservable facility for club, club sport, department, and external reservations at Anderson Aquatic Center.
- Dedicated staff and lifeguards to provide consistent facility oversight, maintaina safe environment, and support effective risk management.
This transition reflects ASI’s continued commitment to improving student experience by providing recreation spaces and ensuring they meet the evolving needs of the campus community. The change in this facility management transition was coordinated in partnership between ASI and the university. Importantly, no ASI or UU Student Fees were used or affected, and this update will not result in any increase to student fees.
Additional details regarding access, reservations, and facility use can be found on the ASI website.
