San Luis Obispo, Calif. 04/30/2025 – On Apr. 2, 2025, the ASI Board of Directors passed the Resolution to Reaffirm Shared Governance, co-authored by Jett Palmer and Sam Finch. This resolution emphasizes the value of collaboration between ASI and entities such as Cal Poly Partners, the Academic Senate, the President’s Office, and other university departments.

This resolution not only expresses appreciation for these ongoing relationships, but also encourages continued transparency, communication, and shared responsibility in university decision-making processes.

“I am proud of the relationships that the ASI Board of Directors and I have established with Cal Poly campus partners,” said Jett Palmer. “It’s critical that we, as an institution and student body, maintain a collaborative culture as our university continues to grow. This legislation expresses gratitude for those partnerships and offers ways for campus entities to operate with allegiance to shared governance.”

Sam Finch added, “The work that ASI student leaders do has been going unnoticed. I was passionate about authoring this resolution because it formally recognizes the dedication, time, and advocacy that students pour into shared governance. Our voices have power, and this resolution is a step toward strengthening the respect and collaboration between students and campus leadership.”

The resolution serves as a formal recognition of student leadership’s role in shaping university policies and fostering inclusive governance structures. It is a reaffirmation that Cal Poly’s shared governance model is most successful when students are meaningfully included in decision-making spaces.
