San Luis Obispo, Calif. 07/8/2025 — The ASI Board of Directors is proud to endorse Academic Senate Resolution AS-987-25 in Support of Cal Poly’s Undocumented Community and Community Members from Mixed Status Families. Authored by Olivia Short, representative of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences, this endorsement acts as a signifier of Associated Students, Inc. (ASI)’s solidarity with Cal Poly’s undocumented community members.
The Cal Poly Academic Senate approved resolution AS-987-25 on Feb. 25, 2025, reaffirming a previous resolution that further supports Cal Poly’s undocumented community. The previous resolution maintained support for the CSU Chancellor’s directive which states that only Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE), not any campus police or California State University (CSU) campus, has jurisdiction to respond to any cases of unlawful entry into the United States. The resolution further affirms Cal Poly’s commitment to diversity, as expressed in the university’s official mission statement.
Board of Directors representative — College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences, Olivia Short stated, “As a representative voice of Cal Poly students, I believe that it is extremely important to announce our opinions when it comes to how fellow students are treated and how their rights are respected. I decided to author this endorsement to emphasize that ASI, as a student organization on campus, wants to support everyone in the Cal Poly community, including fellow students, faculty, or staff who are undocumented or have undocumented family members. During this time, when there’s a lot of uncertainty, I wanted it to be unquestionable that ASI supports our undocumented community members.”
The Board of Directors’ endorsement reflects ASI’s strong commitment to inclusive excellence and further reinforces their commitment to Cal Poly’s undocumented and mixed-status student community. By endorsing this resolution, ASI affirms its dedication to fostering a campus environment where all students feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.
