ASI Events
ASI Events has planned an exciting lineup for students to enjoy this winter!
- Snow Day: On Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. enjoy a snow slide, s’mores, and warm beverages at Snow Day in the University Union Plaza!
- Line Dancing: Get ready to dance the night away on Monday, Feb. 3, from 6–9 p.m. at the Multi-Activity Center at the Cal Poly Recreation Center! The Line Dancing Club will be there to show you the moves and get you on your feet.
- Build a Bouquet: On Thursday, Feb. 13 from 7–8 p.m. stop by Chumash Auditorium (building 65) to arrange a bouquet of flowers, make a personalized card, and enjoy a cookie, brownie, or boba.
- Trivia Nights: Join us for Trivia Nights on Tuesday, Jan. 14, Tuesday, Jan. 28, and Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 6–8 p.m. in The Lounge at University Union! Test your knowledge with trivia from Brainstew, win awesome prizes from the Cal Poly Bookstore, and enjoy free pizza from Woodstock’s!
- Study and Snack: On Monday, Mar. 17 from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. enjoy free snacks, coffee, tea, Scantrons, fruit, bagels, and a quiet study space in the Performing Arts Center Lobby!
ASI Intramural Sports
Ready to show off your skills on the field or court? Get ready for Intramural Sports during winter quarter! Open to all skill levels, ranging from beginners to highly competitive leagues. To further familiarize yourself with the registration process and the IMLeagues platform, visit ASI Intramural Sports. Registration for winter quarter opens Dec. 2 at 5 p.m., and fills up quickly, so mark your calendars!
Sports offered winter quarter: Futsal, Indoor Volleyball, Soccer, Pickleball, Flag Football, Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Racquetball.
Fitness
Get ready to work with the winter quarter fitness schedule! There’s a class for everyone, whether you want to reset your day with Hatha Yoga or work up a sweat in Breakaway, ASI Recreational Sports’ fitness programming has you covered! Show up or sign up for classes through the ASI Access App.
Aquatics
Make a splash with ASI Aquatics in one of the many classes offered in winter quarter! Register for Intermediate or Advanced Swim classes and master the 4 competitive stroke styles on Dec. 2 at 7 a.m. on the ASI Access App. For more one-on-one work, you can register for an 8-session class with a personal aquatics trainer.
ASI Poly Escapes
Poly Escapes is offering several exciting trips and classes this winter! Registration opens on Dec. 2 at 7 a.m. on the ASI Access App or Poly Escapes Page.
- Belay Classes: The Belay Qualification Course is open to all Recreation Center members. Learn belay techniques and top-rope climbing. The cost is $15 per class, and all equipment is provided; just check in at the Rental Center!
- Wilderness First Aid: Designed for outdoor enthusiasts and anyone who works or spends time in remote environments, this course teaches advanced skills to be used in emergencies when help from professional first responders may be far away. Learn primary patient assessments, allergy and anaphylaxis awareness, how to utilize limited resources, and more! Mar. 8–9, 2025, from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Participants must be available the week of Mar. 3 to participate in a half-hour skills session, which will be scheduled upon registration.
Trips:
- SLOcal Surf #1: Coastal Day Trip (Jan. 18, 2025): Join us for an unforgettable surfing adventure at a scenic Central Coast beach! Learn the basics of surfing with expert instructors and enjoy a fun day on the water. No prior surfing experience is required—just comfort with treading water. The cost is $55 per student and $80 for non-students.
- SLOcal Surf #2: Coastal Day Trip (Mar. 8, 2025): Another chance to hit the waves and master surfing basics! Enjoy a day on the Central Coast refining your paddling, standing up, and wave-catching skills. No prior experience required. The cost is $55 per student and $80 for non-students.
- Gone Fishin’ – Coastal Day Trip (Fishing) (Jan. 25, 2025): Get ready for an unforgettable day of coastal adventure as we cast our lines from three iconic piers along California’s stunning Central Coast! This day trip takes you to some of the best fishing spots, and the chance to reel in local favorites like perch, rockfish, halibut, and more. The cost is $50 per student and $75 for non-students.
- Cast, Catch, and Camp: A Fishing Getaway on California’s Central Coast (Feb. 21-23, 2025): Enjoy lake and ocean fishing along the beautiful Central Coast. Sharpen your fishing skills, camp under the stars, and bond with fellow adventurers around the campfire. The cost is $200 per student and $240 for non-students.
- Pinnacle Sights and Cosmic Nights – Pinnacles National Park Overnight Trip (Feb. 28 – Mar. 2, 2025): Experience the beauty of Pinnacles National Park by day and the magic of stargazing by night! Hike through stunning rock formations, then relax under the stars around a cozy campfire. The cost is $220 per student and $260 for non-students.
Trips for On-Campus Groups:
Looking for a unique way to bring your team together this winter? ASI Poly Escapes offers fully customized camping trips along the Central Coast for student and faculty groups. For $1,990, up to 12 participants can enjoy an all-inclusive experience with activities tailored to your department’s goals. We handle all the logistics, including camping gear, meals, transportation, and Wilderness First Aid-trained trip leaders. Shorter day trips are also available upon request.
ASI Craft Center
The Craft Center provides a range of fun, affordable, and instructor-led crafts that include all necessary craft materials and feature intimate class sizes with trained instructors. Register on Monday, Jan. 6 at 7 a.m. on the ASI website.
The offerings include a variety of 6-week courses with additional workshops and open studio passes: Block Printing, Ceramics (Hand Building and Wheel Throwing), Stained Glass, Jewelry Making, Surfboard Shaping, Leatherworking, Painting, Crochet, and the new Sewing course.
