Anderson Aquatic Center to Transition to ASI Management, Expanding Student Access to Aquatic Facilities

|

Beginning June 1, 2026, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) will officially assume management of the Anderson Aquatic Center, creating expanded opportunities for Cal Poly student organizations, campus partners, and recreation users to access aquatic spaces on campus.

The transition reflects a collaborative effort between ASI and the university to better support the evolving recreational and programming needs of the Cal Poly community. Through ASI Facilities Management, the Anderson Aquatic Center will become a reservable aquatic space primarily supporting Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs), including clubs and sport clubs, along with campus departments, and other approved external groups.

By bringing the facility under ASI management, students and organizations will benefit from established reservation systems, dedicated facility oversight, and expanded access to aquatic programming space. The Anderson Aquatic Center will support a variety of reservation-based activities including lap swimming, water polo, team practices, competitions, training sessions, and group recreation. Its flexible pool configuration allows the space to adapt to different organization and program needs throughout the year.

The transition will also positively impact recreation opportunities at the Cal Poly Recreation Center. With some club-based and reserved aquatic activities shifting to Anderson Aquatic Center, additional pool availability will open for Recreation Center members, creating more opportunities for lap swim and open recreation!

ASI will oversee day-to-day facility operations including staffing, maintenance, water quality management, and general facility care. Lifeguards will also be provided on-site through ASI staffing, streamlining operations for student organizations that previously coordinated aquatic staffing independently. The therapy pool and outdoor shower area will remain under the management of Cal Poly Athletics and will continue serving athletics-specific needs in a separate partitioned area from the lap pool space. The transition also aligns Anderson Aquatic Center reservations with ASI’s existing Facility Reservations process and fee structure already used across other ASI-managed spaces.

Students and campus partners can expect:

  • Expanded reservable aquatic space for clubs, sport clubs, academics, and campus programs
  • Increased availability for open recreation at the Cal Poly Recreation Center
  • Dedicated ASI staffing and lifeguard support
  • Coordinated maintenance, safety oversight, and operational management

Importantly, no ASI or University Union student fees were used or affected through this transition, and the management change will not result in any increase to student fees.

Reservations will follow the current ASI Facility Reservations timeline and process.
