The University Union Advisory Board (UUAB) is proud to introduce the NaviLens pilot project at the University Union—marking a major step toward building a more inclusive and accessible campus for all. The NaviLens app uses smart tags that are automatically detected by a smartphone camera without the need to tap or focus. These tags provide essential details like audio directions, location information, available services, and accessibility features. Designed to support individuals with visual impairments in navigating campus spaces independently, NaviLens also offers valuable benefits to sighted users seeking quick, convenient access to campus information.
“As a Board committed to fostering an inclusive campus environment, we believe this initiative represents meaningful progress in making our spaces more navigable and welcoming,” said UUAB Chair Marc Cabeliza. “We would like to extend our gratitude to Secretary of Accessibility, Sydney Lehr, whose initiative and advocacy brought this project to the table during a UUAB meeting last year.”
NaviLens is easy to use and designed for everyone. Simply download the NaviLens or NaviLens Go app from your app store, open it, and point your phone’s camera in any direction—no need to tap or focus. The app instantly detects nearby tags, even from up to 60 feet away and at wide angles. Once a tag is read, it provides real-time audio or visual information about your surroundings, such as building entrances, room numbers, services, or campus updates.
