Cal Poly students have a vital voice in local, state, and federal civic decision-making. Flex Your Right is ASI Student Government’s annual voter registration campaign that provides students with opportunities to register to vote using their local San Luis Obispo or home address.
Throughout the fall, ASI Student Government will host voter registration opportunities across campus to encourage civic engagement and help the Cal Poly community prepare for Election Day. Whether you’re registering for the first time or updating your voter registration with a new mailing address, trained student volunteers will be available to answer questions and guide you through the process.
The 2026 General Election is Nov. 3, 2026, and the deadline to register to vote is Oct. 19, 2026. If you miss the registration deadline, California offers conditional voter registration, which allows eligible voters to register and vote in person through Election Day.
Flex Your Right Voter Registration Booths
Voter registration booths will be held across campus beginning Aug. 25 through Oct. 16. Stop by a booth to register to vote, update your voter registration, or get answers to questions about voting.
Who should register to vote?
- A new voter
- A 16- or 17-year-old who would like to pre-register and automatically be registered when they turn 18
- A registered voter who needs to update their information, such as their name, address, or political party preference
- Anyone who is unsure whether their voter registration information is current

Important Voting Information
All active California registered voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the Nov. 3, 2026, General Election. County elections officials will begin mailing ballots by Oct. 5, and ballot drop-off locations will open beginning Oct. 6.
Once you receive your ballot, you have several options for voting:
Vote by Mail
Complete your ballot, place it in the return envelope, sign the envelope, and return it by mail.
- Your ballot must be postmarked on or before Nov. 3, 2026.
- Mailed ballots must be received by your county elections office by Nov. 10, 2026 to be counted.
- To help ensure your ballot is postmarked on time, the California Secretary of State recommends mailing it at least five days before Election Day.
Drop Off Your Ballot
You can return your completed vote-by-mail ballot to an official ballot drop-off location, polling place, vote center, or county elections office.
- Ballots must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2026.
- Find ballot drop-off and early voting locations as locations become available.
Vote In Person
You can vote in person at an available voting location. Polls will be open on Election Day, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Early voting options will also be available before Election Day.
