Details

  • Depart for the trip Friday afternoon after a briefing.
  • Saturday will be spent exploring the Big Sur area, hiking, and learning about California’s endemic species and Pacific Coast marine ecosystems.
  • Tidepool exploration along the coast on Sunday before returning to campus.

What's Included

  • Transportation, campsite, and aquarium reservations.
  • Sleeping bag and sleeping pad.
  • Headlamp.
  • Group gear: tents, pots, pans, stoves, water filters, first aid kits, GPS, and camp tools.
  • Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner; Sunday breakfast and lunch.

What to Bring

  • Backpack for day hiking (25L minimum).
  • Money for food on the road Friday night.
  • At least 2L of water-carrying capacity.
  • Quart-sized bags of personal snacks and eating utensils.
  • Warm upper and lower layers.
  • Warm thick wool socks and gloves.
  • Hat and sunglasses.
  • Sturdy weatherproof hiking shoes, and water shoes with substantial soles.
  • A more comprehensive gear list will be distributed at the pre-trip meeting in the weeks leading up to the trip.
