ASI President
2026-27 Candidates
Tanner Schinderle - College of Liberal Arts
Pronouns: He/Him
Major: Political Science | College: College of Liberal Arts
Candidate Statement:
I’m Tanner Schinderle, a third-year Political Science major and the current ASI Chief of Staff. In ASI, I’m committed to delivering what students need to thrive. I’ve launched the grocery shuttle program to provide free and direct transportation to grocery stores and fought for underrepresented students by authoring two resolutions. I also lead the President’s Cabinet on initiatives from off-campus housing advocacy to expanding basic needs.
As ASI President, I’ll be committed to building services that meet students where they are. That means making Cal Poly more affordable by working with dining to lower on-campus food prices, expanding programs like the grocery shuttle, and pushing for more affordable on- and off-campus housing by making students the priority, not landlords.
I’m well aware of the disconnect between students and university administration, and as we transition to semesters, I’m dedicated to making Cal Poly a campus that is engaging and fun while ensuring you have the resources you deserve to succeed. This is why I’m focusing on advocating for accessible transportation and parking on campus, adding free weekend beach shuttles, and providing airport transportation before and after breaks. I will strengthen our student communities by enhancing support for clubs and organizations, as well as increasing 24/7 study spaces.
As President, I will bring your voice into every room and make students the priority in every decision. I’ve championed Cal Poly students, and I won’t stop as President. It’s Time for Tanner, join our campaign @tanner4asi.

Major: Biology | College: Bailey College of Science and Mathematics
Candidate Statement:
Hi Cal Poly!
My name is Valentina Campos, and I’m a Biology major from Vail, Colorado, running to represent you. Growing up in a small mountain town and attending a small high school taught me the value of community, connection, and making every voice count. As President of my National Honor Society, I learned how important student involvement and advocacy are in creating meaningful change.
I am passionate about healthcare, service, family, art, and creativity. As a Biology major, I hope to pursue a career in healthcare where I can directly support and care for others. That same passion drives my desire to serve our campus community. I believe leadership is about listening first, acting with integrity, and ensuring all students feel seen, heard, and supported.
If elected, I want to focus on strengthening student engagement, promoting wellness resources, and fostering an inclusive environment where students from all backgrounds feel they belong. Coming from a small school, I understand how powerful it is when students are encouraged to get involved and advocate for their needs. Every student deserves that opportunity at Cal Poly.
I am committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and I will work to amplify underrepresented voices while creating spaces for collaboration and creativity across campus.
I would be honored to earn your vote and the opportunity to serve our student body with dedication, empathy, and enthusiasm
Sophia Gonzalez - Bailey College of Science and Mathematics
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: Liberal Studies | College: Bailey College of Science and Mathematics
Candidate Statement:
Hello Mustangs!
My name is Sophia Gonzalez, and I am a first-year Liberal Studies major running to represent you on the ASI Board of Directors. I am beyond excited to have this opportunity to represent you and our Cal Poly community, and I am ready to ensure that your voice is heard and prioritized in decisions that impact our campus.
As someone who is extremely passionate about student government and amplifying student voices, I am confident in my leadership skills and ability to uphold this position. After serving as ASB President my senior year of high school, getting involved with ASI Executive Staff has further fueled my dedication towards student advocacy. I currently serve as the IHC Vice President of Programming for the yakʔitʸutʸu Community Council, where I lead events and oversee programming initiatives for our neighborhood. These experiences have strengthened my ability to collaborate, listen intentionally, and advocate effectively for the diverse needs of our student body.
I am running for Board of Directors because I believe every student should feel represented, supported, and empowered. I will advocate for expanded support of our cultural centers and identity-based organizations, while working closely with SDAB and CIX to ensure diverse student voices are actively included in campus decision-making. I also want to increase engagement within BCSM by supporting collaborative events between organizations and expanding opportunities for students to get involved. With your vote, we can create a more connected and responsive Cal Poly community. Vote Sophia for BCSM Board of Directors!
Ginger O'Grady - Bailey College of Science and Mathematics
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: Microbiology | College: Bailey College of Science and Mathematics
Candidate Statement:
Hello Mustangs!
My name is Ginger O’Grady, and I am running to represent Bailey College of Science and Mathematics on the ASI Board of Directors. I am a first-year Microbiology major planning to minor in Psychology, and I am passionate about making sure that every BCSM student feels heard, support and valued.
During my first year at Cal Poly, I joined ASI’s Executive Staff program, became a BCSM Ambassador, and even found a community in the Cal Poly Line Dancing Club. Through these experiences, I’ve worked closely with students, given campus tours, and seen how both the strength of our college and the area we can grow.
Over six years of leadership, I have learned one key lesson: leaders are merely vessels for the people they represent. My role is not to speak for you or over you, but to listen carefully and turn your feedback and ideas into action.
If elected, I will prioritize strengthening communication between students and administration, and ensure that student feedback directly shapes decisions that impact Cal Poly. Whether it’s academics, research opportunities, or student support services, your voice matters on our campus.
I would be honored to represent the Bailey College of Sciences and Mathematics.
Vote Ginger O’Grady for BCSM Director!

My name is Allison Aguiar, and I am a first-year Agricultural Communications major pursuing a double major in Political Science. I am excited to be a candidate for the ASI Board of Directors, representing the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences.
Growing up on a walnut and almond farm taught me the importance of advocacy and sparked my passion for problem-solving. From speaking with government officials to working in the orchard myself, I have seen firsthand how vital it is to understand the everyday issues and challenges of the people you represent. Through my involvement in ASI Executive Staff, CAFES Ambassadors, and Latinos in Ag, I have worked to understand both the systems in place within the college and the concerns students experience, so I can effectively represent your voices and create meaningful change.

I would be honored to earn your vote and serve as one of your CAFES representatives on the Board of Directors.

Major: | College: College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Candidate Statement:
As an ASI Board Member, my priorities would be centered around student mental health services and access to affordable and healthy food. My goals of working in the field of sustainable agriculture strongly align with both of these goals. Hanna Birdsong - College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: Agriculture Business | College: College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Candidate Statement:
My name is Hanna Birdsong, and I am a candidate for the ASI Board of Directors! I am a second year Agriculture Business student with a minor in law and society, hoping to work in Conservation Project Management someday. I love being outside – my most recent adventure was to Yosemite to see Firefall!
I intend to represent the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences by actively listening to student concerns, advocating for sustainable and hands-on learning opportunities, and ensuring CAFES students have a voice on Cal Poly’s campus.
If elected, I will work to prioritize:
Sustainability and Cal Poly Products: I will work to support and promote Cal Poly Products made by CAFES students while supporting initiatives that uphold our college’s commitment to sustainability.
Clubs and student voices on campus: I will advocate for accessible funding to further support our student initiatives, because I know that CAFES became the powerhouse it is today with the help of dedicated student leadership and involvement.
Hands-on learning opportunities: I will fight to preserve and expand our signature “Learn by Doing” opportunities, ensuring all students have access to meaningful and career-building experiences. Jenesis De Jesus - College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: Environmental Management and Protection | College: College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Candidate Statement:
My name is Jenesis De Jesus, a first-year Environmental Management and Protection major. I am seeking election to ASI’s Board of Directors as a representative for CAFES.
My involvement on campus includes ASI’s Executive Staff, Anchored (Collegiate Fellowship), United Movement, and Merge’s dance teams, and Pilipino Cultural Exchange. In these spaces, I’ve worked on building a sense of community through different student populations, reaffirming the importance of just showing up and intentionally listening.
With experience in both academic and community leadership roles, I focused on listening and amplifying the voices in the class grade, school, and district levels. During my term as my high school’s ASB President, I served on the district Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, bringing up concerns from conversations that otherwise wouldn’t be addressed at the district level. Through these experiences, I came to value accountability, inclusiveness, and most of all advocacy- a skill that is agreeably not easy, but a necessary skill needed.
Through my campus involvement, there is a clear lack of spaces for students and their groups, whether seating in common areas or even for the extracurriculars like the campus’s dance groups. I want to help provide increased availability with proper spaces where students can come together comfortably without concern of external factors.
From my experiences, ultimately, I strive to strengthen the relationship between ASI and students to be more personal, transparent, and accountable, where students feel confident to directly address all their concerns.
Ethan Greene - College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Major: Environmental Management and Protection | College: College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Candidate Statement:
Fellow students of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences. My name is Ethan Greene, and I am a third year Environmental Management and Protection major. With my background in leadership, policy analysis, and community engagement, I am seeking to strengthen the connection between students and faculty to make meaningful changes on campus. If elected to the Board of Directors, I intend to serve with strong communication, accountability, and initiative that is representative of all the students in the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences. I believe there is a lot of meaningful work that still needs to be done on campus to meet students and faculty needs.
The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences has played a major role in shaping my academic and professional growth. Through strong faculty mentorship, hands-on coursework in environmental management, and lasting friendships, I have learned to approach problems with careful reasoning and a practical perspective. CAFES has provided me with invaluable opportunities to grow academically, professionally, and personally, and I strive to protect these valuable resources and offer new perspectives to strengthen the community I have benefitted from so much. I hope to pay forward the guidance and support I’ve received by making a positive impact on the college and ensuring CAFES continues to empower students for years to come.
Liz Quintero-Rubio - College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Major: Agricultural Communications | College: College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences
Candidate Statement:
Hey CAFES, I’m Liz Quintero-Rubio, and I’m running to represent you in the coming year! I’m a first-year Ag Communications student looking to pursue a career in marketing the industry that feeds us all.
I’m a first-generation student coming from the Central Valley, which is what sparked my passion for advocacy in Agriculture and eventually what helped me decide my career path. I am involved as ASI executive staff, serve as a CAFES general ambassador, a member of Latinos in Agriculture, and a part of the Cal Poly Scholars program.
This being my first year at Cal Poly, I bring a new perspective of change, ideas, and growth. What drew me to Cal Poly was the number of opportunities that were available, and throughout my first year, I have taken advantage of that. Serving on the Board of Directors representing the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences would allow me to better represent your needs and ensure CAFES students have a strong voice in campus decisions by advocating for student needs, improving awareness of leadership events and opportunities, and strengthening the support for underrepresented groups within our college.
Cal Poly’s “Learn by Doing” philosophy inspires me, and I’m ready to put that into action as your CAFES representative!

Hi everyone! My name is Olivia, I’m a 3rd Environmental Management and Protection major, and I’m excited to be running for the ASI Board of Directors!
I have been an ASI student government member for the past two years, where I have served on the Board of Directors as a CAFES representative and on the Executive Cabinet as the Secretary of Health and Wellbeing. Throughout my time in ASI, I have co-authored two pieces of legislation and co-hosted several campus wide initiatives, including the 2026 Buck the Stigma and implementation of menstrual products in restrooms on campus. In addition to my roles in ASI, I have served as an officer in the Environmental Sciences Club and the Poly Range and Wildlands Club, and I work as a Peer Leader at the Cal Poly Center for Leadership.
If elected, I will meet with individual CAFES clubs and organizations on campus to identify and advocate for your needs. I will advocate for CAFES students’ ability to fulfill all their graduation requirements after the semester conversion to keep you on track to graduate on time. I will also advocate to continue the work of previous CAFES representatives, which includes protecting agricultural land from non-CAFES development and bringing poly produce into campus markets. Samantha Katz - College of Architecture and Environmental Design
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: City and Regional Planning | College: College of Architecture and Environmental Design
Candidate Statement:
Hello! My name is Samantha Katz, but many of you know me as Sam. I am a second-year City and Regional Planning major with a minor in Landscape Architecture. For me, running for the ASI Board of Directors is not an empty resume filler. I hope as your CAED representative I can bring changes that reflect the unique and specific needs of CAED students. From plotting and printing issues to cold nights in studio without many food options, I understand our challenges and will serve as your voice on ASI.
On campus, I am currently serving as the Treasurer for the Cal Poly Sailing team as well as a member of Associated Students in Planning and Hillel. I also have experience working with policy research and reports, and community outreach from an internship last summer with Circulate San Diego. I am certain I have the leadership skills and thorough mindset to make meaningful change for YOU. I hope as both a woman and a CRP major I can present a new perspective that allows for every CAED to student to feel represented and hear. Vote Sam Katz for YOUR voice on ASI.
Benjamin Muro - College of Architecture and Environmental Design
Pronouns: He/Him
Major: City and Regional Planning | College: College of Architecture and Environmental Design
Candidate Statement:
Good afternoon,
My name is Benjamin Muro, I’m a 1st year Latino student here at Cal Poly studying City & Regional Planning with a minor in Pre-Law. And one of the main reasons I’m looking to join the ASI board is to be the leader. I’m not looking to just have a resume filler, I want to contribute to the school that is giving me an opportunity of a lifetime through education.
I have a background of social activism and leadership. I’ve organized multiple protests and meetings regarding current social issues in our country. I’ve had the honor of earning respect through action through roles in Baseball, Clubs, and personal situations. I truly understand what it takes to create change, not just through action, but also through persistence and just having a good heart.
Being here for a few months has allowed me to really see the ins and outs of this campus, and for all its good there is still work to be done. Longer hours for all of our study nooks, better biking infrastructure around campus, more club inclusivity for incoming and current students, more food options through locally owned businesses, and better representation for all of our students’ culture and community. After all, Cal Poly is truly a gem that will never stop shining. And lucky for us, we hold the honor of keeping it polished and shining till its time to pass it on to the next round of leaders.
Thank you for reading!
Stone Ramage - College of Architecture and Environmental Design
Pronouns: He/Him
Major: Architectural Engineering | College: College of Architecture and Environmental Design
Candidate Statement:
Hi, I’m Stone Ramage, a second-year Architectural Engineering student. My time at Cal Poly has proven how amazing it is that we call San Luis Obispo our home away from home. At first glance, Cal Poly is perfect. However, throughout your time here, I know you have found something that irritates you. After spending the past two years living on campus, I know that it can be hard to find a good late-night meal. Or maybe it’s finding time to meet with your professor to ask about a pesky homework problem. You might have other concerns but are not sure where to express them. This is why I want to represent you on the ASI Board of Directors – to turn your concerns into positive changes for all Cal Poly students.
At Cal Poly, I’m involved in ASI Student Government through the Board of Directors, and in my major through our Structural Engineers Association of California student chapter. Off campus, I represent Cal Poly students through SLO’s Mass Transportation Committee, working to improve the transportation experience for all users. These experiences have shown me how small changes can significantly impact a project’s outcome, like the power of a voice, no matter how small, on a student body’s experience. I want to use my experience and passion for advocacy to ensure your concerns are heard and turned into meaningful improvements that benefit all Cal Poly students.
Jackson Flath - College of Engineering
Pronouns: He/Him
Major: Electrical Engineering | College: College of Engineering
Candidate Statement:
How often have you felt opportunities pass you by? Sometimes, it’s a restless feeling, like we’re wasting away because we’re not maximizing our potential. I’ve been there: the career fair that I forgot to draft a resume for; clubs I never joined; and advising appointments I didn’t even know to schedule. Frequently, we never knew that these things existed or that we should take advantage of them. We must find out from those older and wiser, but how do we even find that connection? Too often we miss out on crucial resources to help us obtain our engineering degrees, and it creates students who fall behind because they weren’t in the right place at the right time.
My goal is to advocate for greater support and mentorship of younger students in CENG by:
– Hosting more events to prepare for the Career Fair; resume workshops, mock interviews, and clear timelines to communicate expectations.
– Producing year-by-year roadmaps for each major; milestones and soft/hard goals.
– Drafting prerequisite recovery and guidance; planning so that setbacks don’t derail progress.
My name is Jack Flath, and I’m a first-year Electrical Engineering student who is tackling the opportunity to represent your voice within CENG as one of ASI’s Board of Directors. I believe it’s integral that students shouldn’t guess on essential decisions throughout their degree. Clearer communication, stronger guidance, and real results are what I’m for. I’d be honored to earn your vote, so you can make the most of all four years.
Naomi Jung - College of Engineering
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: | College: College of Engineering
Candidate Statement:
YIIPPEEEEE STUDENT GOVERNMENT!!! Hi everyone, I’m Naomi, and I’m running for re-election to the Board of Directors to continue advocating for the responsible spending of your student fees. After serving one year on the Board and the Internal Review Committee, I remain committed to listening to students’ needs and making meaningful changes on campus. Every student deserves to enjoy their college experience, and student government is one of the best ways to make an active difference and communicate directly with administrative leaders.
Diego Pardo - College of Engineering
Pronouns: He/Him
Major: Electrical Engineering | College: College of Engineering
Candidate Statement:
My name is Diego Pardo, and I’m a first-year student majoring in Electrical Engineering. As a senator of the Inter Housing Council, I’ve been able to work with the residents of yakʔitʸutʸu and was able to advocate for their concerns, understand their experiences, and help create a more connected community. Throughout my time as a senator, I’ve learned how powerful it is when a student feel heard and understood.
I’m running because I care about the well-being of our student body. If I am elected, I want to expand on mental-health care as well as help create burnout-prevention support. As engineering students, we have heavy loads of classes which include lots of complicated STEM-related classes, endless labs, and very demanding homework. With the support from ASI as well as the Health and Wellness Center, I will help promote all the mental health support that Cal Poly offers to its student body.
Anahi (Ana) Ramos - College of Engineering
Pronouns: She/Her/Ella
Major: Mechanical Engineering | College: College of Engineering
Candidate Statement:
Hello Mustangs, my name is Anahi Ramos, and I am a first-year mechanical engineering student. I am running to represent the College of Engineering as your Board of Directors representative because I am passionate about serving our community and advocating for student well-being. In my free time, I enjoy hiking the many trails SLO has to offer and crafting.
I currently serve as a Senator for the Inter Housing Council, specifically representing the yakʔitʸutʸu Council. Through this experience, I continue to learn how to represent 250 residents by planning fun, welcoming, and inclusive events that foster community and enhance the student experience.
As your CENG representative, I would work to create meaningful change within our engineering community. Being part of a competitive and challenging college can significantly impact students’ daily lives and overall well-being. I will advocate for increased promotion of mental and physical health resources and push for more outreach events that strengthen connection within our college. As a member of programs like EOP and Scholars, I am committed to expanding the presence of diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout ASI by encouraging greater collaboration with cultural clubs and organizations on campus.
Together, we can build a more supportive, inclusive, and unforgettable engineering experience.
Nimisha Thakur - College of Engineering
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: Software Engineering | College: College of Engineering
Candidate Statement:
Cal Poly, we are on the verge of undergoing significant changes, ranging from the Cal Maritime merger, the transition from quarters to semesters, and the addition of new dorms and student success buildings. This past year, I have learnt a lot about these upcoming additions and have been able to provide a lot of student input and feedback on them.
My name is Nimisha Thakur, and I am a second-year Software Engineering student. On campus, I am involved in the Society of Women Engineers, Theta Tau (Co-Ed Engineering Fraternity), Women in Software and Hardware, and I am also a current representative on the ASI Board of Directors.
As a CENG representative on the Board, I have worked diligently to be informed of changes and updates around campus and accurately represent the student voice. I have also immersed myself in many engineering-heavy spaces around campus that allow me to specifically focus on the opinions of my fellow engineers. Additionally, throughout my time on Board, I have been working to gather information to write a resolution surrounding micromobility policies on campus, as well as helped put on many events for the Cal Poly community.
If elected, my focus for this next year would be to ensure all these major transitions go as smoothly as possible and that Cal Poly students are aware of how these changes will affect them. Student awareness and advocacy are my top priorities as a director. So, vote for Thakur to engineer a better future together.
Donya Ahmady - College of Liberal Arts
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: Graphic Communication | College: College of Liberal Arts
Candidate Statement:
Hi everyone! My name is Donya Ahmady, and I’m a second-year Graphic Communication major running to represent CLA on the Board of Directors.
Last year, I ran for this position because I believed CLA students deserved stronger communication and representation. Although I wasn’t elected, I had the privilege of later stepping in to serve during Fall 2025. That experience gave me firsthand insight into how decisions are made and how student voices are translated into action. Outside of ASI, I’m involved in organizations such as Kesem, Hack4Impact, ISCO, and UXFest, which have allowed me to connect with students across disciplines and stay engaged in our broader campus community.
As a member of the External Affairs Committee and IRAAC, I worked within the systems that allocate funding, support student organizations, and shape key discussions. I saw the impact student leadership can have, but I also recognized the communication gaps that leave many students unaware of the resources and opportunities available to them.
As a CLA student at a STEM-focused university, I understand how important strong advocacy and visibility are for our college. CLA students deserve consistent, informed representation and equitable support alongside every other college on campus. I am passionate about ensuring that all voices are heard and that every CLA student feels recognized, supported, and connected to the broader Cal Poly community.
If elected, I will prioritize clearer communication about funding, resources, and opportunities, and work to strengthen the connection between CLA students and ASI.
Diego Castillo - College of Liberal Arts
Pronouns: He/Him
Major: Political Science | College: College of Liberal Arts
Candidate Statement:
I am Diego Castillo, a first-year Political Science major from Long Beach, California. I’m running for Board of Directors to represent our wonderful student body’s interests for a better Cal Poly experience. My biggest goal is to strengthen our access to the campus essentials: food and transportation. I will personally listen to student concerns, encourage strong communication and transparency from administration and faculty, and advocate for every student’s needs to be met. Cal Poly needs healthier on-campus food options, so I will advocate for bringing fresh fruits and vegetables to our markets in Vista Grande, the University Union, and the Campus Market. I will also be an advocate for introducing better options on expanded menus for students with dietary restrictions. Cal Poly students also need access to food after late-night study sessions or long days of activities. We need options that can be paid for with our dining dollars and that don’t charge exorbitant delivery prices. I will encourage expanding hours at our restaurants and introducing new delivery-friendly options. I will also work to expand transportation options for students, including bus lines and Zipcar access. These are just some of my ideas for our school, but every student must have a voice, and everyone’s ideas must be heard and represented. If elected, I will make myself available to anyone who has ideas or concerns to make the school a better place. A better Cal Poly for one is a better Cal Poly for all!
Addison Godfrey - College of Liberal Arts
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: Political Science | College: College of Liberal Arts
Candidate Statement:
Hi! My name is Addison Godfrey, and I’m a first-year political science major running with Maggie Ziegast for the Board of Directors to represent the College of Liberal Arts!
During my time at Cal Poly, I have volunteered across campus, gained career insight through my fraternity Phi Alpha Delta, and participated in the ASI executive staff. Through my experience, I have realized just how passionate I am to actively improve campus life for liberal arts students and engage with the Mustang community.
Some specific policy areas I want to focus on include:
- Increase funding for diverse CLA programs to expand opportunities for research, supplies, and academic trips
- Improve access to campus resources, including the library book system, by hosting workshops
- Establish a long-term solution for free therapy services on campus
- Improve campus accessibility through increased lighting, consistent water filtration, and designated areas for e-scooters and e-bikes to prevent accidents and citations
- Expand opportunities for CLA-specific booths at the career fair
- Simplify reimbursement processes for clubs
- Create additional solitary study areas, including rearranging furniture in the University Union
- Weekend hours for the health center & set hours for rides to the health center
To implement these goals, I need your help; exercise your power as a student and vote! Progress takes time, dedication, and transparency, and I would be honored to represent the student body and make these goals a reality. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email adgodfre@calpoly.edu.
Elliot Halcon - College of Liberal Arts
Pronouns: He/Him
Major: Political Science | College: College of Liberal Arts
Candidate Statement:
Hi everyone, my name is Elliott Halcon, and I’m a second-year Political Science major with a minor in Economics from Sacramento, CA and I am beyond excited to be running as one of your Directors for the College of Liberal Arts.
From experience working with members of Congress, across the street from the state capital, and with local non-profits, I know on day one I will be able to hit the ground running with a collaborative spirit that works conjunctively and productively to bring the changes you want to see to this school.
While I aim as high as the ceiling this school will allow, I want to give you realistic, noticeable, and effective policies that I know I will be able to work to accomplish next school year. In this position, policies I want to propose would include funding two additional levels of the library during finals and midterms week to give students more room to study and working to expand the advising hours in the College of Liberal Arts during peak registration and finals periods during next year’s semester transition.
Everyone in this college already knows what it takes to succeed, I only want to make the path to success clearer, smoother, and more accessible to every student in this college that wants it. I would be honored with the opportunity to represent you next year on ASI’s Board of Directors.
Thanks!

As Cal Poly continues to grow and expand, I am committed to advocating for improved access to advising and academic resources to ensure students feel supported and prepared to achieve their goals. Students’ perspectives are essential to strengthening our community, particularly during times of growth and change, and I will work to ensure CLA voices are represented.
Outside of academics, I enjoy playing soccer, spending time at the beach, hiking, and exploring new food spots with friends and family! I would be honored to represent you on the Board of Directors and earn your vote.
Rintaro Sato - College of Liberal Arts
Pronouns: He/Him
Major: History | College: College of Liberal Arts
Candidate Statement:
My name is Rintaro Sato, a candidate for the ASI Board of Directors looking to represent the College of Liberal Arts. I am a second-year history major with a minor in Law and Society, looking to work in civil rights law!
As a representative for the CLA, I will look to fight at the local, state, and federal levels against both proposed and implemented budget cuts as part of a larger goal to increase opportunities for CLA students to participate in Cal Poly’s coveted ‘Learn by Doing.’
Throughout my CLA college experience, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of the liberal arts as a foundation for education and society. With this, I have become deeply disappointed to watch as the talks and actions of state and federal budget cuts burden our students, faculty, and educational programs. CLA has always faced a stigma of not offering as many ‘Learn by Doing’ opportunities as other colleges, and funding cuts threaten to narrow already limited opportunities for liberal arts students to gain valuable, hands-on career-building experience.
With this in mind, if elected, I will utilize Cal Poly’s platform as a highly respected CSU to represent Cal Poly’s liberal arts at all levels of government, not only to regain lost ground but also to advance measures to expand CLA funding.
I am deeply passionate about serving as a representative for all CLA students, and I would be honored to have your vote to represent your voice on the ASI Board of Directors.
Josiah Staley - College of Liberal Arts
Pronouns: He/Him
Major: Political Science | College: College of Liberal Arts
Candidate Statement:
Hey CLA! My name is Josiah Staley, and I am a first-year Political Science major running to represent you on the ASI Board of Directors. Since coming to Cal Poly, I have participated in various forms of student government, including serving as an IHC Senator and being part of ASI’s Executive Staff. While campaigning and working within IHC as an elected Senator, I have learned how to be an effective representative of students, and have helped create a fun and inclusive community across the multiple events we have held and will continue to hold throughout the year. Through ASI’s Executive Staff program, I have learned how the organization operates and how ASI is working towards enhancing the overall experience for all students at Cal Poly. I’ve helped ASI through volunteering for multiple events, including Cal Poly’s new Grocery Shuttle. Through the experiences of IHC and ASI’s Executive Staff, I will apply what I’ve learned to my work in the ASI Board of Directors. If elected, I intend to advocate for better lighting throughout campus, more transportation options, expanded dining options, and to provide more information on the resources available from Cal Poly. I intend to advocate for more self-transportation methods, such as more rental cars and the addition of rental e-bikes. I also intend to advocate for more dining options by proposing and voting in favor of healthier and a wider variety of dining locations. Other than that, I hope you all get out and vote!
Tiffany Chau - Orfalea College of Business
Pronouns: She/Her
Major: Business Administration | College: Orfalea College of Business
Candidate Statement:
Hi Mustangs! My name is Tiffany Chau, and I am a third-year Business Administration major concentrating in Finance with a minor in Event Planning and Management. Cal Poly and OCOB have provided me with incredible opportunities to grow academically and professionally, and I hope to return that by advocating for the resources every student needs to succeed.
Throughout my time at Cal Poly, I have worked at 1901, currently work in the External Relations Office, and am involved with KCPR. These roles have connected me with diverse student communities across both professional and creative spaces. Through these experiences, I’ve learned to listen carefully and communicate effectively across different groups on campus. I’ve seen how student voices influence campus life, and I believe leadership should be transparent, accountable, and accessible.
As a first-generation Asian American, representation and belonging are important to me. I understand how overwhelming it can feel to step into a large and new environment without a strong sense of support around you. That perspective fuels my commitment to improving access to student resources and strengthening communication between students and leadership. Community plays a significant role in the college experience, yet not everyone begins their journey feeling connected. I want to expand inclusive engagement opportunities and welcome students who may not have been involved from the start. By creating these spaces, we can foster a campus environment where every Mustang feels heard, supported, and represented.
Justin Dane Szeto - Orfalea College of Business

Major: Economics | College: Orfalea College of Business
Candidate Statement:
Hi there, I’m Justin Szeto, an Economics major concentrating in Accounting and minoring in Political Science and Law & Society, running to represent you on the ASI Board of Directors.
After serving as the elected VP of Operations for the yakʔitʸutʸu Neighborhood and supporting many ASI initiatives as part of the Executive Staff Program this year, I hope to further my involvement and advocacy on campus by applying what I’ve learned.
As a Director, I will advocate for transparency across all aspects of ASI, breaking down the mundane to what’s relevant to you—the students. This is especially important as Cal Poly continues to integrate with Cal Maritime Academy, where I aim to push for responsible budgeting and collaborative work to ensure that your money is being spent with your experience at the forefront of ASI’s mission.
Along with this, I want to develop a more efficient line of direct communication with students in the College of Business to better connect with you, your needs, and your concerns—elevating them to higher levels of administration and making them heard.
I firmly believe that student voice can drive real change, and I’m beyond excited to facilitate that responsibility and put my skills to use in order to support students and act on their needs for the benefit of our campus community.

My name is Tommy Fewel, and I am running to represent the Orfalea College of Business on the ASI Board of Directors. I am a first-year Business Administration student with a concentration in Marketing, passionate about driving change to strengthen our OCOB community and ensure that students have an effective voice on campus.
During my first year at Cal Poly, I have been an active member of ASI’s Executive Staff program and Cal Poly Racing’s business team. Major: Business Administration | College: Orfalea College of Business
Candidate Statement:
Hi Mustangs, my name is Sophie Gunter. I am a third year pursuing my degree in Business Administration, Accounting. In addition to my current involvement with ASI, I am a member of Alpha Chi Omega as well as the Cal Poly Accounting Club. I am passionate about helping students find community on campus and enabling them to make the most out of their time at Cal Poly.

Through these roles, I have seen firsthand the real impact that budgeting and funding decisions have on student clubs and organizations, and I am motivated to continue working toward making these opportunities as expansive and inclusive as possible.
As your fellow OCOB student, I recognize how easy it is to feel isolated in large classrooms and among a large student body. I am dedicated to equally representing each student, fostering community, and advocating for resource availability and access. I would be honored to serve another year on the Board and continue working to ensure that every student feels supported and confident in their college experience.

Alan Ko - Orfalea College of Business
Major: Business Administration | College: Orfalea College of Business
Candidate Statement:
Hello Mustangs! My name is Alan Ko, and I am a first-year Business Administration major. I am also a first-generation college student. Attending college has been filled with ups and downs, where I’ve had to navigate complicated systems without guidance. Those experiences have led me to get involved and make the campus easier for everyone to understand. I am running for a seat because I am passionate about advocating for OCOB students’ voices and ensuring our college’s needs are met within ASI and beyond.
I am involved in Poly Reps, Mustang News, Phi Sigma Kappa, and I work as a photographer for Mustang Athletics. I connect with students from a variety of majors, backgrounds, and organizations. I regularly hear what students are excited about and where they feel the university is failing.
If elected, you get someone who is involved on campus and can bring a wide range of perspectives to the table. I want to focus on clearer communication between students and the university, and on making campus policies easier to understand and resources easier to access (multilingual). For OCOB specifically, I plan to strengthen the relationship with career services by pushing for more employer visits, networking events, and hands-on opportunities so students feel prepared for internships and jobs. I also want to ensurethat ongoing students have clearer support during the quarter-to-semester transition
As a first-generation student, I care about making sure no one feels lost while navigating the chaos of college.
