San Luis Obispo, Calif. 06/04/2026 — Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is proud
to announce that ASI’s elected president for the upcoming 2026–2027 school
year, Tanner Schinderle, has been awarded the 2026 Shaun Lumachi Student
Advocate of the Year. Throughout his time at Cal Poly, Schinderle has

presented by the Cal State Student Organization (CSSA).
“I am honored to have been recognized as the CSU Student Advocate of the
Year,” states Schinderle. “This award is a testament to the great work all of
ASI has done to improve student life on campus this year. I know this is only
the beginning, and I am grateful to be able to continue this advocacy on
behalf of the students.”
The Shaun Lumachi Student Advocate of the Year award recognizes one Cal
State University student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in
carrying out the mission of CSSA through educating the public on issues
happening in public higher education, advocating for students, and organizing
