San Luis Obispo, Calif. 04/22/2025 — Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) through the University Union Advisory Board (UUAB) is excited to announce the launch of NaviLens at the University Union, marking a significant step toward a more inclusive and accessible campus for everyone. This cutting-edge technology is designed to assist individuals with vision impairments in navigating campus spaces independently, while also offering features that benefit sighted users seeking quick, convenient access to campus information.
“As a Board dedicated to creating an inclusive environment, we see this initiative as a meaningful step forward in making our campus spaces more navigable and welcoming,” said UUAB Chair Marc Cabeliza. “We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Secretary of Accessibility, Sydney Lehr, whose advocacy and initiative brought this important project to our attention during a UUAB meeting last year.”
NaviLens is designed with ease of use in mind for everyone. To get started, simply download the NaviLens or NaviLens Go app from your app store, open it, and point your phone’s camera in any direction. There’s no need to tap or focus the screen—the app instantly detects nearby tags from up to 60 feet away and at wide angles. Once a tag is detected, the app provides real-time audio or visual information about your surroundings, such as building entrances, room numbers, services, or campus updates.
