The Belay Classes and the Wilderness First Aid Course are designed for climbers and outdoor enthusiasts of all levels. Now is the perfect time to enhance your climbing abilities and outdoor safety knowledge!
Belay Classes:
This course, taught by a knowledgeable Climbing Park Supervisor, provides a comprehensive orientation of our facility and covers all the key aspects of belaying. You’ll gain hands-on experience and learn the knots and safety procedures for top-rope climbing. Belaying refers to the technique of managing the rope for a climber. Top-roping is a type of rock climbing where climbers are supported by a rope running through an anchor at the top of the wall, secured by a belayer on the ground. After completing the course and passing the qualification, you’ll be ready to belay your friends with confidence and ease. Join us on Tuesday, Jan. 21 or Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Course cost: $15.
Wilderness First Aid by American Red Cross:
Are you an outdoor enthusiast looking to enhance your safety skills? This comprehensive two-part course will equip you with essential knowledge and skills to handle emergencies when professional help may be far away. The first part involves First Aid/CPR basic certification from the American Red Cross. Participants must be available the week of Mar. 3 to participate in a half-hour skills session, which will be scheduled upon registration. The second part is to complete the Wilderness First Aid training on Mar. 8–9, 2025, from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Course cost: $200 for students, and $240 for non-students. Topics include:
- Primary and Secondary Assessments
- Head/Brain, Neck and Spinal Injuries
- Heat-Related Emergencies
- Hypothermia
- Altitude-Related Illnesses
- Allergies and Anaphylaxis
- Burns
- Bone and Joint Injuries
- Wounds and Wound Infection
