2024–29 ASI Strategic Plan: Year One Achievements & Next Steps

|

Our commitment to enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) has guided our actions throughout year one. Let’s dive into our key goals, what we’ve accomplished, and what lies ahead.

Achievements

  • Goal 2: Promote ASI Staff Success
    • Implementing a New Employee Tracking System
One of our standout achievements has been the successful implementation of a new employee tracking system, Workable, which was implemented in 2024. This system not only streamlines administrative processes but also enhances our ability to monitor employee engagement and recruit talented candidates effectively.
    • Assessing ASI Employee Training Needs
Recognizing the importance of continuous professional development, we have conducted a comprehensive assessment of employee training needs. This initiative will help us tailor our training programs to better align with the skills our team members require to excel.
    • Creating a Positive Recruitment Experience
A welcoming and efficient recruitment process is vital for attracting top talent. This year, we have prioritized creating a positive recruitment experience that reflects our organizational culture and values, ensuring candidates feel valued from the very first interaction.
    • Establishing a 360-Evaluation Process for ASI Directors
We have also implemented a 360-evaluation process for ASI directors. This feedback mechanism promotes a culture of openness and continuous improvement, allowing leaders to receive constructive feedback from their peers and team members.
  • Goal 3: Drive Organizational Growth and Stability
    • Completing an ASI Programs and Services Needs Assessment
A crucial component of ASI’s organizational growth and development has been the completion of an ASI programs and services needs assessment. This evaluation has provided valuable insights into the needs and preferences of the students in our campus community, guiding future program and service development.
    • Transitioning ASI to the Cloud
The transition of ASI documents and records to the cloud has been another significant milestone. This move not only enhances our operational efficiency but also improves accessibility and collaboration among team members.
    • Identifying Resources for Safety and Risk Management
In our commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all, we have made strides in identifying resources to manage ASI’s safety and risk management. This proactive approach allows us to mitigate potential risks and ensure a secure environment for our participants.
    • Improving ASI Annual Spring Election Turnout
Focused on strategies to improve turnout for the annual Student Government election with an aim to foster a more participatory culture through targeted outreach and engagement.

Year One Ongoing Initiatives: Progressing Beyond 2024
As we continue into 2024, our Strategic Plan remains a guiding framework for enhancing the effectiveness and impact of Associated Students, Inc. (ASI). While we’ve made great strides in year one, several key initiatives are currently underway. Let’s explore these ongoing goals and their importance to our organization and the campus community.

  • Goal 1: Elevate the Student Experience
    • Completing an ASI Programs and Services Assessment
One of our top priorities is completing a comprehensive assessment of ASI programs and services. This evaluation aims to identify strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring that our offerings align with the needs and preferences of our diverse student body. By gathering feedback and analyzing participation data, we can make informed decisions that enhance student engagement and satisfaction.
    • Enhancing Late Night and Weekend Programming
Recognizing the need for accessible and engaging activities outside of traditional hours, we are focused on enhancing late-night and weekend programming. Our goal is to create a vibrant social atmosphere that fosters community and provides students with meaningful opportunities to connect and unwind. Through surveys and student input, we aim to curate programs that resonate with our audience.
  • Goal 3: Drive Organizational Growth and Stability
    • Implementing a Centralized Communications Platform
Effective communication is key to our success. We are in the process of implementing a centralized communications platform for ASI staff and Student Government by creating SharePoint pages. This platform will streamline information sharing, enhance collaboration, and ensure that all members are informed and engaged. By breaking down silos, we can foster a more cohesive and dynamic working environment.
    • Creating a Multi-Faceted Outreach and Engagement Plan
To inform the campus community about ASI Student Government, we are developing a multi-faceted outreach and engagement plan. This initiative will utilize various channels—social media, newsletters, events, and more—to reach a broad audience. By promoting transparency and accessibility, we hope to encourage greater student involvement in governance and decision-making processes.
  • Goal 4: Strengthen ASI’s Brand, Trust, and Relevance within the Cal Poly Community
    • Reviewing ASI’s Brand Strategy
After completing research and discovery in year one, the initiative’s focus shifted to a more holistic review of the “ASI Experience” across all areas of the organization and its connection to campus. Year two will prioritize developing a comprehensive brand strategy and forming a branding committee to implement recommendations from Matchfire. These actionable steps aim to seamlessly integrate the strategy across the organization, fostering a unified presence that positively impacts key audiences and stakeholders, ultimately strengthening ASI’s connection with the student body and campus partners.
    • Improving Understanding of the ASI Budget
Transparency is vital in building trust and engagement within our community. We are committed to improving the understanding of the ASI budget among students and the campus community. By simplifying budget communications and hosting informational sessions, we aim to demystify the budgeting process and encourage dialogue around funding priorities and resource allocation.

Year One Deferred: Planning for the Future
While we have made substantial progress, one initiative has been deferred. Notably, developing a plan for the successful year-round transition of ASI operations is essential for our future growth and sustainability. We look forward to addressing this in the coming years consistent with the campus timeline for the adoption of year-round operations.

We celebrate the accomplishments made in year one while acknowledging the work that lies ahead. The steps taken are laying the groundwork for a vibrant and engaged ASI community. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence, fostering an environment where all voices are heard and valued.
