Lifeguard Certification Course (May)

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.  Successful completion results in an American Red Cross certification for Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid valid for two years.  The price includes all instruction, testing, and certification costs.

Prerequisites 

  • Ability to tread water for two minutes using only legs, a continuous 300yard swim using only the front crawl, or breaststroke
  • Timed brick retrieval from the bottom of the pool
  • 15 years of age

Course Schedule

  • This is a blended learning course, with a portion of the course completed online prior to the first class meeting.
  • The class will consist of an online course and three in-person sessions.   Participants must attend every session entirely in order to be eligible for certification.
  • All sessions will take place at the Cal Poly Recreation Center.
  • Participants should plan for both in-water and dryland classroom time at all three sessions.
  • Registration for this class is open on March 10 at 8 a.m.

Online Session

  • Participants will receive a link for the online portion of the class by April 21.
  • The online portion must be completed before the start of Session 1.

Session 1

  •  Friday, May 2 from 6:30–9:30 p.m.

Session 2

  • Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m.–6:30 p.m

Session 3

  • Sunday, May 4 from 9 a.m.–6:30 p.m
