Interested in seeking out some snow this winter? Join us on a radical weekend adventure complete with a day-long hike in search of snow, sandwhiched by two nights of camping on warmer ground. Explore natural wonders and make some new friends!

  • Depart Friday afternoon after a briefing.
  • Friday night dinner on the road.
  • Camp setup upon arrival to the campsite. Participants will not be camping on the snow.
  • Saturday morning drive to the trailhead and hike a snowy trail (weather allowing) with the help of snowshoes.
  • Dinner and stargazing.
  • Visit to geological wonder.
  • Return to campus starting Sunday morning.

What's Included

  • Transportation and campsite reservations
  • Basic instruction and micro-spikes for snow encounters
  • Sleeping bag and sleeping pad
  • Headlamp
  • Group gear: tents, pots, pans, stoves, water filters, first aid kits, GPS, camp tools
  • Meals: Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday breakfast, lunch

What to Bring

  • Backpack for day hiking; 25L minimum
  • Money for food on the road Friday night
  • At least 2L of water carrying capacity.
  • Quart-sized bag of personal snacks, and eating utensils.
  • Warm upper and lower layers.
  • Active clothes for hiking.
  • Rain jacket, and waterproof pants
  • Camp clothes
  • Sturdy weatherproof hiking shoes, and waterproof hiking boots required
  • Warm thick wool socks and gloves
  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Please note: a more comprehensive gear list will be distributed at the pre-trip meeting in the weeks leading up to the trip.
