Sofia is a fourth-year biomedical engineering student with a concentration in mechanical design, passionate about applying innovative design to solve real-world problems.
Originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia, she grew up on the East Coast before moving to California, bringing a unique international and cross-country perspective to her work.
Before her role as Vice Chair of UUAB, Sofia served as a College of Engineering Representative on the Board of Directors and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) Committee Chair for the past two years. She is also a Resident Advisor, building supportive and inclusive communities on campus.
Her diverse experiences have shaped her perspective on engineering and design, and she hopes to promote innovation, collaboration, inclusivity, and community at Cal Poly.
Outside of academics, Sofia enjoys studying architectural and furniture design, exploring fashion, playing volleyball, and is a huge hockey fan (go Caps)!
