Alyson Engel is the 2025–26 Chair of the ASI Board of Directors. She is currently in her fourth-year at Cal Poly, completing both a bachelor’s degree in political science, with a concentration in American politics, and a master’s in public policy through the blended program. She will graduate with both degrees in spring 2026 and looks forward to a career in policy analysis.
Before serving as Chair, Alyson served as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, where she gained valuable experience in campus governance, strategic planning, and building collaborative relationships across departments and student groups. This role gave her a deep understanding of university systems and strengthened her ability to advocate effectively for student needs. Alyson is passionate about student civic engagement and social equity. Over the past two years, she has worked extensively on ASI’s voter registration and education campaigns, helping to increase student participation in local, state, and national elections. She believes strongly that informed and empowered students are essential to a healthy democracy, and she strives to create opportunities for all students to have a voice.
Originally from Sacramento, California with family roots on the Central Coast, Alyson also works as a student assistant in the Office of External Relations within the Division of Student Affairs. In this position, she supports the planning and execution of Commencement, Mustang Family Weekend, and other important Cal Poly family traditions, developing strong organizational and communication skills.
Beyond her academic and leadership commitments, Alyson enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and rock climbing. She also loves to crochet, create art and music, and cook. Alyson is dedicated, organized, and driven by a genuine commitment to improving the student experience through thoughtful policy, advocacy, and collaboration.
