ASI Intramural Sports Levels of Play
Open Division I
Division 1 leagues are designed for those who are more interested in winning and losing and provide an environment that is highly skilled and highly competitive. Participants in this league have most likely previously participated in organized competition for a high school or club/travel team. The skill level and the level of competition is high.
Open Division II
Division 2 leagues are designed for those who are seeking a slightly less competitive and skilled playing environment but still are interested in winning and losing. The competition level of these leagues is described as “moderate.” These leagues are appropriate for players who have experience in the sport and would like to participate in a competitive atmosphere but may not possess the technical skill or experience that is needed to enjoy Division I.
Open Division III
Division 3 leagues are designed for those who are looking to have fun with a group of friends and are seeking a more casual playing environment but are still interested in winning and losing. These leagues are designed for participants who do not have much experience in the sport but would still like to participate in a competitive atmosphere. The competition level is light.
Open – Recreational
These leagues are designed for participants to have fun in a relaxed environment. Prior experience in the sport is not necessary to play in these leagues. Participants likely aren’t concerned with winning a championship, but rather playing the sport for fun. Teams of this league will not advance to a playoff tournament but will rather be offered an extended regular season.
Co-Ed
These leagues are designed for teams with diverse gender identities. Teams must have an equal number of male and female players, with a tolerance of plus or minus one (the “N+1 rule”). Non-binary and gender-nonconforming players are welcome and encouraged to participate, but are not counted in the male/female balance. The goal is to create an inclusive, fair, and respectful environment for all participants.
