Head Teacher — Orfalea Family & ASI Children's Center
Office: Orfalea Family & ASI Children's Center, Building 133
Nicole started her teaching career in 2002 working as a teacher’s assistant at Head Start. From there, she began taking early childhood education classes at Cuesta College where she signed up to become a volunteer at the Friends Outside program located at the California Men’s Colony. She was ultimately hired there and ran a childcare program for the children of the inmates during visiting hours while also supervising Cal Poly volunteers. She then went on to work at the Cuesta College Children’s Center, State Preschool San Miguel, and became a headteacher at the Children’s Center in 2009, which has felt like home from the moment she walked in. She holds a bachelor’s degree in child development from the University of Laverne and frequently attends workshops to further her education with one of her favorites held in Reggio Emilia, Italy where she studied constructivist theory in the schools! Nicole is a passionate advocate of children’s rights and feels privileged to work with such capable, intuitive beings. She lives in Morro Bay with her husband Pat who works for Cal Fire, son Hank, daughter Betsy, and fur son Clyde the Westie. She is a lover of all things related to the arts and has been dancing in various styles since she was 4.
My goal is always to foster a sense of community and family in my classroom between myself, co-teachers, student staff, families, and most importantly the children.
