ASI Student Government Bicycle Safety Campaign: Bike Night from Campus

|

San Luis Obispo, Calif. Feb. 1, 2022 — ASI Student Government in collaboration with Cal Poly Transportation and Parking Services will be promoting bicycle safety with their first-ever Bike Night from Campus on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at 8:30 p.m.

Riders will meet at the Julian A. McPhee University Union Plaza at 8:30 p.m. for free pizza provided by Woodstock’s Pizza followed by a group bike ride to downtown San Luis Obispo at 9 p.m. Student Government will also be handing out free bike lights provided by Bike SLO County and sharing safety resources from Cal Poly Transportation and Parking Services.

Bike Night from Campus is yet another event in Student Government’s winter quarter Bike Safety Campaign. The campaign focuses on addressing community wellbeing, student safety, and mobility through offered resources. At Bike Night from Campus, campus community members are encouraged to share their experiences cycling and walking around campus and throughout San Luis Obispo with Student Government. This input will help inform the discussions the ASI Board of Directors will have about bike and pedestrian safety with local government and campus leadership.

“I’m excited to continue building our bike safety campaign with another bike light handout and by sharing resources for students, by students,” said Anders Bjork, Chair of the ASI External Affairs Committee. “A big shout-out to TAPS and Bike SLO County for helping us scale up our efforts and reach more students.”

Look out for more events and pop-ups in Student Government’s Bike Safety series throughout winter quarter.

If your bike needs maintenance, you can stop by the ASI Craft Center for their Bike Advice program. Pay $5 for a bike instructor to take a look at your bike and diagnose what’s ailing your cycle.
