Submit Your Photography For The University Union Artwork Refresh

|

Are you a current student or alum with a passion for photography? Here’s your chance to have your work featured in one of the most visited spots on campus! The Julian A. McPhee University Union conference rooms 216 and 219 are getting an artwork makeover, and we want your photos to help bring new life to the space!

As part of a special artwork refresh, the University Union Advisory Board (UUAB) Art Committee is curating two new photo collections to bring fresh energy and meaningful stories into Conference Rooms 216 and 219. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your creative perspective of student life in San Luis Obispo County on campus.

What We’re Looking For

For each conference room, five to eight images of a themed collection reflecting a unique part of the Cal Poly experience will be selected:

  • UU216 — Student Life & Creativity: A celebration of student life, creative expression, and the everyday experiences that define today’s student community.
  • UU219 — Honoring Latinx Culture & Heritage: A vibrant tribute to reflect the richness and depth of Latinx traditions, celebrations, and stories that shape our campus and community.

We’re looking for original photographs that capture meaningful places, events, traditions, or activities that highlight the spirit of being a Mustang. Whether it’s a peaceful moment at the beach, a lively scene from a local event, or a tradition you’ve cherished during your time at Cal Poly, we want to see it.

Submission Details

Current students and alumni are invited to submit images of any size or orientation for consideration. All submitted images must be original and taken in San Luis Obispo County. The ASI Student Government Art and Acquisition Committee will review submissions. Once selected, participants will be notified, and asked to provide a high-resolution file of the submitted photo for printing. Photography will be printed and framed for display in the conference rooms.

The deadline to submit images for consideration is Friday, Sept. 19, 2025. Submit one photo per submission form; note that a separate form is required for each photo submission. Be sure to review full requirements and the ASI Art Acquisition Policy before submitting your work. The policy guides the selection installation, and long-term care of art to maintain a thoughtful, welcoming environment for all. To review the full policy, visit the ASI website

Why Participate?

This is more than a chance to display your work — it’s an opportunity to leave a lasting mark on campus, inspire others, and help shape how we tell our story as a community.

So, dig through your archives or head out with your camera — your photo could be part of the University Union’s next chapter.

Let’s celebrate our community and creativity — one photo at a time.
