The Cal Poly community has an essential role in influencing the decision-making process at the local, state, and federal levels of government.
ASI Student Government leads an annual Flex Your Right campaign with the goal of getting students registered to vote using their San Luis Obispo or home address. To learn how to Flex Your Right and help ensure the campus community’s civic agency, check out some of the resources below!
You can register to vote — or update your registration status — in several different languages on California’s Online Voter Registration website. Registering to vote is the first step toward being ready for the upcoming General Election, on Nov. 8, 2022. You can even track your ballot and see when it’s mailed, received, and counted if you sign up for ballotrax.
Voter Registration at Cal Poly
Cal Poly students have a history of involvement during Flex Your Right registration drives. In 2018 and 2019, ASI Student Government registered more students to vote than any other university in California. The numbers totaled to over 3,000 students in 2018 and over 2,000 in 2019. Again in 2020, Cal Poly ranked among the highest universities in the CSU system in student voter registration.
Making a Difference on Campus
Civic engagement goes beyond elections; there are plenty of opportunities to exercise your civic agency on campus with Student Government; you can attend a Board of Directors or University Union Advisory Board Meeting and even stop by office hours with the ASI President, Gracie Babatola, to voice your thoughts.
