Have you ever thought about joining ASI Student Government? This is your chance! The candidate filing period for the 2023–24 ASI President and ASI Board of Directors is open Monday, Feb. 6, at 8 a.m.–Monday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m.
As the collective voice of Cal Poly students, Student Government leaders advocate for change, provide direction on ASI’s corporate responsibilities, and are a resource for students creating positive contributions both on and off campus. If elected, leaders will have the opportunity to effect change and create a better Cal Poly for current and future generations of students.
To file for ASI president or the Board of Directors, students must complete a Candidate Packet. The candidate packet, including required electronic and pdf forms, is found on ASI Recruitment and Elections.
ASI Student Government will host virtual and in-person informational sessions, where interested students can learn more about student government and the elections process. Sessions will include a presentation, Q&A period, and time with a current student government member. Sessions will be held on Monday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. Those interested in filing and learning more about the ASI Board of Directors can attend the Open House on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 4:30 p.m. All dates and locations are on ASI Recruitment and Elections.
The ASI president represents the general student body and acts as the official representative of ASI to Cal Poly administration and the general public. The time commitment for the ASI president is in excess of 40 hours per week and starts on the last day of spring quarter. The ASI president is expected to be In San Luis Obispo during the entire summer quarter to fulfill the responsibilities of meeting attendance, in-office work, retreats, and other affiliated job functions.
The board is comprised of representatives from each academic college that serve as the official voice of students and act as members of ASI’s corporate governing board. Regular board meetings convene every other Wednesday at 5:10 p.m. Every Monday at 5:10 pm, the board engages in working meetings as a tool to facilitate discussions regarding ASI business, events, and campus issues. The time commitment for board representatives is in excess of 10 hours per week.
