ASI Board of Directors Pass Indigenous People’s, Dreamers Scholarships

|

The ASI Board of Directors has passed proposals for both the ASI Indigenous People’s Scholarship and the ASI Dreamers Scholarship.

ASI Indigenous People’s Scholarship

ASI has stayed committed to advocating for Indigenous students and listened to our students at the State of Indigeneity in fall quarter of 2020 who called for more support. ASI Student Government has now allocated funding that was dedicated to creating a scholarship for students who contributed to Indigenous communities for this scholarship.

Through this scholarship, ASI hopes to lessen the financial burden on students and allow them to focus on their studies and contributions to the Indigenous community.

  • Application deadline: Oct. 17, 2021
  • Scholarship award: $2,000–5,000
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Major: Open
    • Class level: Open, full-time enrollment
    • GPA: Minimum 2.5
    • Students who have demonstrated contributions to American Indian and Indigenous communities.
    • Applications will demonstrate leadership through extracurricular activities and achievements.

ASI Dreamer Scholarship

Undocumented students are still barred from applying for most types of financial assistance from the university. In support, the ASI Board of Directors created a scholarship that will be awarded to Dreamers and is not restricted to any particular major or field of study. ASI is committed to advocating with and for our undocumented communities.

  • Application deadline: Oct. 17, 2021
  • Scholarship award: $300/quarter ($900/academic year)
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Major: Open
    • Class level: Open, full-time enrollment
    • GPA: Minimum 2.5

    • An undocumented student enrolled at Cal Poly.

Through these scholarships, ASI hopes to uplift our students and continue advocating for the rights and voices that make up the campus community.

To apply to either of these scholarships, use the secure general scholarship application process through the Cal Poly Portal. For more information, do not hesitate to reach out to the Financial Aid Office or email bstieler@calpoly.edu.
