Dear Cal Poly Student,
My name is Alexandria Raynes, and I’m so excited that you are interested in representing the students of our campus! As the Chair of the Recruitment and Elections Committee, I hope to serve as your introduction to Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), and share the various ways that you can serve to amplify student voices, develop leadership skills, and make an impact on this campus, in ASI, and beyond.
The unique perspective that you will bring to our organization will be incredibly impactful. The issues you are passionate about, and the change that you can bring to the table can work to improve this campus, empower your peer’s voices, utilize student government for the student body, and make steps to ensure our campus is an institution that you and future students will be proud of.
Student Government members have the responsibility of respecting, advocating, and finding solutions for the concerns of Cal Poly students while upholding ASI’s vision of connecting students to their ultimate college experience. If elected to this position, you will grow in a leadership role that will positively impact the students you serve. This organization allows you the freedom of creativity and provides you with the tools and resources to accomplish your goals and support your constituents.
The 2023–24 ASI Elections Candidate Packet and filing forms provide valuable information and requirements needed to become an eligible candidate in the upcoming election. It is vital that you read through the forms and important documents to obtain the necessary materials and meeting dates/times. Students are eligible to file to be an ASI Board of Directors or presidential candidate during the filing period. The filing period starts Monday, Feb. 6 at 8 a.m. and ends Monday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. All candidates must complete and submit the online filing forms to be eligible to run. If you decide to run AFTER the filing period closes, you can still run as a write-in candidate, though your name will NOT be on the ballot, and campaigning will be more difficult.
ASI is committed to supporting candidates to ensure accessible and equitable campaigns. Services ASI will provide to candidates include but are not limited to graphics packages, promotion on the ASI website and social media, campaign guides, and campaign outreach training at the mandatory candidate meeting.
If elected to the Board of Directors or as ASI president, mandatory Student Government training will take place in August 2023. More information will be provided at the Board of Directors mandatory candidate meeting on March 2nd and the president mandatory candidate meeting on March 3.
Thank you for your interest in Student Government and your dedication to changing Cal Poly for the better! Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns, requests, or would like more information.
Sincerely,
Alexandria Raynes
