What affect will construction have on the businesses in the Plaza (i.e. Bookstore, SESLOC, BackStage Pizza, Starbucks)?
Access to these businesses is available via the University Union and the breezeway leading from Inner Perimeter Road. Access to the lower plaza (i.e. The Avenue, Poly Card, ATMs and Sandwich Factory) will be available on September 11.
Will there be signage for any detours required to enter the UU?
Yes, there will be directional signs and other information available to assist patrons in and around the UU.

See diagram below:
Will the walkway between the Avenue and the plaza be affected?
Temporary safe walkways will be established throughout the plaza.
Will there be any noise issues affecting people in the UU?
You may be impacted by construction noise and activity in around the University Union.
Will banner posting abilities on the UU balconies be affected?
No. Access to the balconies should be unaffected; however, postings will not be permitted on temporary construction fencing, walls, etc.
Will there be UU Hour/Concerts in the Plaza during construction?
The Concerts in the Plaza series will resume when construction is complete. During construction, alternate locations on campus have been identified to provide musical entertainment and other activities, including the Via Carta Mall by Campus Market and during Cal Poly football pre-game "Fan Fest".
How will clubs be impacted by the renovation?
There will be 15 club booth spaces and three sandwich board spaces available at the Via Carta Mall by Campus Market during renovation. These spaces can be reserved through the Epicenter using the E-Plan process.
When does construction begin and how long will it take?
The project is scheduled to begin June 15. Construction is expected to be completed Spring 2010.
What is happening to the bus stop and bus route?
S. Perimeter Road will officially be closed on September 11 and access limited to emergency and service vehicles only. If the new transits stops on Grand Ave near Perimeter Road are not finished, the buses will continue to use the stops by the PAC (outbound routes) and Sage Restaurant (inbound routes) until the new transit stops are completed. The new transit stops by the Library will be open. The transit stops at Graphic Arts will be closed.
How long has ASI been planning this project?
The need for the renovation of the UU Plaza was identified in a 2004 student survey. In 2005 the University Union Advisory Board worked with the College of Architecture and Environmental Design on a class project for the design of the plaza.
Where does the money come from to pay for the UU Plaza and why can’t that money go somewhere else?
Monies for the UU Plaza renovation are from ASI reserves. ASI is mandated to use these funds for the facilities and programs managed by ASI. These funds cannot be used for academic purposes (faculty, labs, more classes, library hours, etc.).
What will happen to the tables currently in the plaza?
Because new tables will be purchased for the UU Plaza upon completion of the renovation, the current tables will the moved to various locations at the Sports Complex. This eliminates the need to store the tables and fills the need for more seating at the complex.
