The mission of the SCLC is to enhance communication and increase respect among students, public officials and community members.
The Student Community Liaison Committee (SCLC) was formed in 1987 by a small group of Cal Poly students who wanted to represent the student voice in the San Luis Obispo community. Today, with more than 25 members, the SCLC has become a recognized resource for solutions to neighborhood issues and community challenges.
In an effort to further build camaraderie and community amongst the City and County of San Luis Obispo with the campuses of Cal Poly State University and Cuesta Community College, and the students who attend these colleges, the Student Community Liaison Committee (SCLC) has developed "A Statement of Our Hopes for the Community." The eleven point document specifies the actions that permanent and student residents should take in order to maintain a healthy relationship. By using the Statement of Hopes document as a premise for everyday living, the SCLC encourages that all residents in the community to interact in a manner that is conducive to advancing the ideals of community and university life.
