Who can participate?
Students are eligible to participate with valid Cal Poly ID.
Faculty/Staff are eligible to participate in Intramural Sports if they have purchased a Recreation Center membership.
Alumni can participate in Intramural Sports if they have a current Recreation Center membership. Alumni must also show proof of medical insurance to the on-site supervisor.
Spouses are eligible to participate in Intramural Sports if they have a current Recreation Center membership.
What sports are typically offered each quarter?
Fall: 5x5 Basketball, Dodgeball, Flag Football, 6x6 Speed Soccer, Softball, Volleyball
Winter: 4x4 Basketball, 5x5 Basketball, Dodgeball, 4x4 Indoor Soccer, Volleyball
Spring: 5x5 Basketball, Flag Football, 9x9 Soccer, Softball, Tennis
Summer: IM offerings vary.

What is Speed Soccer?
Speed Soccer is a soccer variant in which 6 people play per team on a half field.
How do I register?
Participants may register a team either online at connect.asi.calpoly.edu or at the Recreation Center. Team registration begins the first Thursday of every quarter.
What if I don't have a team?
People who do not have a team may participate by attending the Free Agents meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday of the second week of the quarter. At this meeting people who do not have teams will be grouped into teams and registered.
Can I play on more than one team?
Participants may only play on one team per gender league per sport. For example, one could play on a men's soccer team, a co-rec soccer team and a men's basketball team, but one could not play on two men's soccer teams (even if they are in two different divisions).
Where are games played?
Intramural sports games are played at the Recreation Center, at the Sports Complex and occasionally in Mott Gym.
How do the three divisions differ?
DI: The most competitive level of play. DI participants typically have previous experience in their sport and want a competitive game.
DII: Recreationally Competitive. DII participants typically have previous experience in their sport;, however, they are not as competitive or as skilled as DI participants.
DIII: The least competitive level of play. DIII participants typically have little to no previous experience in their sport.
What does Co-Rec mean?
Co-Rec leagues are leagues in which men and women compete on the same team. Most Co-Rec leagues follow an N+1 rule.
What does N+1 mean?
N+1 is the general rule for how many men and women must be on the field or court in a co-rec game. This rule means that if the number of people on the field is even, there must be an equal number of men and women in play. If the number of people on the field is odd, the number of men and women may only differ by one. For example, in a co-rec 5x5 basketball game there may be 3 men and 2 women or 3 women and 2 men on the court, but not 4 men and 1 woman.
Can I add players to my roster once the season starts?
Teams may add players to their rosters at any point during the regular season. To add players to your roster, simply have them bring their ID cards to the next game and the sport supervisor will add them to your team.
Do I need my Cal Poly ID card to play?
Yes. Any participant who does not have a Cal Poly ID will not be allowed to play.
Where are schedules posted?
Schedules are posted online at ASI Connect (http://connect.asi.calpoly.edu) and on the IM board in the Recreation Center.
What happens if my team can't make a scheduled game?
Teams who cannot make a scheduled game should let the Intramural Sports staff know as soon as possible. The IM staff will work to reschedule the game if possible, or the team will be given an automatic loss.
What constitutes a forfeit?
Teams who are not at their games with all of their players checked in and ready to play before their scheduled game times will be forced to forfeit.
When do I have to pay my forfeit fee and how?
Forfeit fees must be paid no later than two days before a teams next scheduled game. Forfeit fees may be paid at the Service Desk in the Recreation Center.
What is an automatic loss?
An automatic loss will be given to teams who cannot make a game but inform the IM staff ahead of time. While an automatic loss will still count as a loss, the team will not receive a '-'behavior rating and will not be charged a forfeit fee.
What is a behavior rating?
Teams will receive a rating after each game based on their behavior. Possible behavior ratings are '+', '0' and '-'. Teams that conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner will receive a '+'. Teams that display inappropriate behavior will receive a '0', and teams that display unacceptable behavior will receive a '-'.
What happens if my team receives a '0' or '-'?
Teams that receive a '0' or '-' must contact the IM staff within 48 hours. Depending on the situation, the team manager may be required to meet with a sport supervisor before the team's next game. Teams that receive two '-' ratings will be dropped from their league. Note: Two '0' ratings are equivalent to one '-'rating.
How are playoffs determined?
Teams are selected for playoffs based on a number of criteria, including season record, head-to-head record, point differential, forfeits and behavior ratings. Playoffs are a privilege, and the IM staff reserves the right to include or omit any team from the playoffs for any reason.
Is there a prize for winning the championship?
Teams who win their championship games will receive Intramural Champion shirts.
