Rec Center Expansion Project
On February 27 and 28, 2008, 75% of students voting approved an increase to the Student Union fee of $65 per quarter to fund the expansion and renovation of the existing Recreation Center. Mandated by this overwhelming student support, plans are currently being developed for the expansion and renovation of the Recreation Center. The project is in the site development stage, and regular updates on the planning process and timeline will be posted to this web site.
This project is the result of a shared student vision that supports the campus environment. The expanded facility will be a welcoming destination for the entire campus community to relax, recreate and socialize.
During the Rec Expansion educational campaign students identified 10 components they would like to see included in the expansion. Following are ASI’s planning principles:
- Commitment to increasing usable space to meet the needs of a growing student population.
- Commitment to an inviting atmosphere.
- Commitment to the renovation of existing space consistent with new construction and upgraded to be compatible with current facility standards.
- Commitment to quality materials, equipment and furnishings and sustainable building practices in compliance with CSU Chancellor’s Executive Order 987.
- Commitment to designing for flexibility.
- Commitment to accessibility throughout construction
