Independent Student Organizations (ISO)

TRAINING: 2009-10

All ISO Presidents and Vice Presidents are required to complete the online training prior to initiating the rostering process and conducting business for the current academic year. While ISO Advisors are not required to complete the online training, it is recommended.

Once the President and Vice President have completed the training, the Epicenter will email the Club President a Roster within 5 business days.

If a new Roster is not on file in the Epicenter by October 23, ISOs will not be able to conduct business until a 2009-10 Roster has been completed and approved by Student Life & Leadership.

Independent Student Organizations (ISOs) are under contract with the University through Student Life & Leadership. A Cal Poly ISO is considered independent if the following criteria are met:

  • Official affiliation with a national organization
  • Follows a national organization’s constitution
  • Follows a national organization’s bylaws (customizing bylaws to the local organization is acceptable per authorization from the national organization)
  • Members pay quarterly or annual dues that partially go to their national organization
  • The national organization provides insurance for its affiliated chapters

ISOs are able to do the following:

  • Reserve on campus space through the Epicenter
  • Handle all contracts independently
  • Hold their fiscal accounts off campus unassociated with the University or ASI
  • Apply for Club Funding

The following handbooks are to be used as a guide for ISO Officers and Advisors:

The ISO Officer Training is required to receive a roster. While the ISO Advisor Training is not required, it is strongly recommended.
