Craft Center Student Manager

( $10.00 per hour ; 12-15 hours per week )

Duties:

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Student Manager – Craft Center is responsible for general supervision of the Craft Center Staff to include: training and scheduling. The Student Manager is responsible for budget development and directing activities in the Craft Center.  This position requires the Student Manager to be “on call” in case of an emergency in the Craft Center.

Requirements:

Organizational abilities and experience.   Previous experience planning and scheduling programs preferred.  Knowledge of promotion and/or publicity methods.  Experience in budget development and implementation. Some knowledge of ASI forms and accounting procedures is preferred.  Extensive knowledge of crafts offered in the Craft Center. Working knowledge of various hand tools and power  tools associated with the Craft Center.  Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with a minimum of 6 units.  All ASI student staff must have a minimum GPA of 2.0. Graduate students must carry 4 units/3.0 GPA.  Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  First Aid and CPR Certification required.  Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.  Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs.  Experience working in a high volume fast-paced environment.  Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.  Ability to work cooperatively with others or independently, as the situation requires.  Experience in administrative work/supervision/planning/advising/PR.  Knowledge of Windows based computer systems (Microsoft Office).  Ability to take risks and explore new ideas.  Position specific knowledge.  Experience in assessment.  Ability to work with volunteers.  Past supervisory experience/ability to supervise peers.  Awareness of safety/risk-management procedures.  Strong problem solving skills.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Student Manager is directly responsible for the coordination of all the functional areas of Craft Center  and will supervise the Craft Center student Desk Assistants, Instructors, Assistant Manager and Studio Assistant Managers.  Hire and train new employees.  Hold meetings.  Initiate all disciplinary action.  Serve as a role model.  Ensure facilities are clean and safe.
