Fitness/Wellness Programs Graduate Assistant

( $11.70 per hour + in-state tuition waiver ; 18-20 hours per week )

Duties: Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Fitness Programs, the Graduate Assistant Fitness/Wellness Programs is responsible for hiring, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating Exercise Room Assistants. This includes conducting staff meetings and the planning and publicizing of various workshops and fitness programs.

In order to maximize the graduate assistant’s personal development and ensure that their experience with ASI Recreational Sports is broad based, they will be assigned additional responsibilities beyond their specific program or staff

Requirements:

Managerial, administrative, supervisory and/or leadership experience. Extensive knowledge of Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, safe training procedures and exercise implementation ACSM, NSCA, ACE, degree in Kinesiology, or other nationally recognized fitness certification. Previous experience instructing group exercise classes. Previous experience in nutrition, health, or wellness education. Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly all ASI graduate students must carry 4 units/3.0 GPA. Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.First Aid, AED and CPR Certification required. Experience with PC computer applications. Experience in risk management procedures and identifying safety concerns. Experience in recreation programming.NIRSA membership recommended. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Position specific background/knowledge/coursework. Strong conflict resolution/problem solving skills. Experience in budget management. Ability to run a high volume office with an efficient customer service based philosophy. Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs. Student staff supervision experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assist with instructor evaluation meetings. Assist with schedule for exercise and instructional classes, instructor in-service trainings, staff meetings and development of new classes. Act as liaison between Full Time Coordinator, Fitness Instructors, and Personal Trainers. Supervise and train Exercise Room Assistants in job duties and responsibilities. Assist with training of all new Personal Trainers in job duties and responsibilities.
