I would like to start by welcoming students back to Cal Poly for the 2009-10 academic year and provide an update as to what changes have taken place during the summer.
Renovation began on the University Union Plaza shortly after spring commencement and progress has been rapid. To date, sections of both the upper plaza (between the bookstore and the UU) and lower plaza (between Building 19 and Inner Perimeter Road) have been completed and re-opened to pedestrians. Expected completion of the UU Plaza is spring 2010, and regular progress updates can be found on the
ASI Facility website.
As for the Recreation Center, the transition of the main gym into a fitness / cardio space is complete and open. I know you will be impressed with this temporary facility. Fall quarter exercise class schedules will feature “business as usual” with a variety of class offerings. The class schedule is posted on the
ASI Recreation website.
Construction on the Rec Center expansion will begin sometime in the fall, and updates on the progress will be posted regularly on the ASI Facility website. Be sure to navigate through the facility website to see renderings of both projects. I encourage you to leave any comments or questions you might have on the blog, or via the UUAB contact link. Check back regularly for up-to-date information regarding all ASI facility projects.
